AA Thought for the Day
January 14, 2010 Children of Chaos Over the years, every conceivable deviation from our Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions have been tried. That was sure to be, since we are so largely a band of ego-driven individuals. Children of chaos, we have defiantly played with every brand of fire, only to emerge unharmed and, we think, wiser. These very deviations created a vast process of trial and error which, under the grace of God, has brought us to where we stand today. - Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 146 Thought to Ponder . . . The Twelve Steps tell us how it works; the Twelve Traditions tell us why it works. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . When Into Self, Discover Our Motives. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 15, 2010 Focus Getting into the present centers me. I've come to believe that God is taking care of me. The relief was swift as I realized I only had to get through the next hour, half-hour, or even ten minutes. It's a miracle how the process works. - Thank You For Sharing, p. 55 Thought to Ponder . . . Every day is a gift. That is why we call it the present. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Stay In Today. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 16, 2010 Letting Go I'm beginning to see that letting go doesn't mean giving up. It means opening myself to new vistas. There have been moments of what I would call ecstasy. I'm thrilled and scared at the same time. I feel, "I'd better not enjoy this because it is going to go away.". . . The AA program says, "Look, we've got some things to give you that are really going to help -- if you'll slow down long enough and if you'll relax." - Came To Believe . . ., p. 41 Thought to Ponder . . . When I struggle, I sink. When I let go, I float. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Honesty, Open-mindedness, Willingness. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 17, 2010 Perfection There would be no music if high C were the only note, no art if spectrum red were the only color, no joy in pleasure if pleasure were the only feeling -- and, paradoxically, there would be no perfection without imperfection. What does this mean to me? Well, first it means that I don't have to be perfect. All I have to do is grow at a pace natural to me. The Best of the Grapevine [Vol. 1], pp. 60-61 Thought to Ponder . . . Give me the courage to be imperfect. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Positive Attitudes Change Everything. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 18, 2010 Willingness It was only a matter of being willing to believe in a Power greater than myself. Nothing more was required of me to make my beginning. I saw that growth could start from that point. On a foundation of complete willingness I might build what I saw in my friend. Would I have it? Of course I would! - Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 12 Thought to Ponder . . . I saw, I felt, I believed. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Willingness, Honesty, Open-mindedness. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 19, 2010 Anger If we were to live, we had to be free of anger. The grouch and the sudden rage were not for us. Anger is the dubious luxury of normal men, but for us alcoholics it is poison. - As Bill Sees It, p. 5 Thought to Ponder . . . Anger rules nothing except itself. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Avoid Anger. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 20, 2010 Prayer In AA, we have found that the actual good results of prayer are beyond question. They are matters of knowledge and experience. All those who have persisted have found strength not ordinarily their own. They have found wisdom beyond their usual capability. And they have increasingly found a peace of mind which can stand firm in the face of difficult circumstances. - As Bill Sees It,, p. 127 Thought to Ponder . . . Life is fragile, handle with prayer. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Always Say A Prayer. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 21, 2010 Discovery I spent most of my life thinking that I was unwanted, that I was unloved. I've learned since being in AA that the more I worry about me loving you, and the less I worry about you loving me, the happier I'll be. - Experience, Strength and Hope, p. 218 Thought to Ponder . . . The surest way to unhappiness is to concentrate only on ourselves. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Attitude Adjustment Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 22, 2010 Change After we come into AA, if we go on growing, our attitudes and actions toward security -- emotional security and financial security -- commence to change profoundly. - Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 115 Thought to Ponder . . . Learn to change, change to learn. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Acceptance, Belief, Change. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 23, 2010 Time I find that we don't just "get somewhere" -- we go there, one day at a time. . . And what is time to me now? It is a most precious asset. I have the luxury of being able to cherish the memory of yesterday, to live today with serenity, to wait for tomorrow. . . And I am grateful; grateful for the existence of AA; grateful to my God for leading me to the doors of AA and to Himself, grateful for hope. I am grateful for this minute. My eternity may be in it. - The Best of the Grapevine [Vol. 2], p. 21 Thought to Ponder . . . What have I been given today? Am I willing to reach out and grasp it? AA-related 'Alconym' . . . One Day At A Time. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day
January 24, 2010 Acceptance AA has filled my days with friends, laughter, growth, and the feeling of worth . . . I am free to laugh all my laughter, free to trust and be trusted, free both to give and receive help. I am free from shame and regret, free to learn and grow and work. I have left that lonely, frightening, painful express train through hell. I have accepted the gift of a safer, happier journey through life. - Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 543 Thought to Ponder . . . The joy is in the journey, so enjoy the ride. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Acceptance, Belief, Change. Day by Day is the only way |

AA Thought for the Day February 7, 2010 Fundamental One of the most fundamental things I have learned is to pass on our message to other alcoholics. That meant I must think more about others than about myself. The most important thing is to practice these principles in all my affairs. In my opinion, that is what Alcoholics Anonymous is all about. - Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 109 Thought to Ponder . . . Let it begin with me. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Always Awesome.

AA Thought for the Day
February 8, 2010 Fantasy The more I drank, the more I fantasized everything. I imagined getting even for hurts and rejections. In my mind's eye I played and replayed scenes in which I was plucked magically from the bar where I stood nursing a drink and was instantly exalted to some position of power and prestige. I lived in a dream world. AA led me gently from this fantasizing to embrace reality with open arms. And I found it beautiful! For, at last, I was at peace with myself. And with others. And with God. - Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 559 Thought to Ponder . . . I had to get sober to be amazed. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Son Of A Basket, Everything's Real.

AA Thought for the Day
February 9, 2010 Step Two It wasn't AA that had the closed mind, it was me. The minute I stopped arguing, I could begin to see and feel. Right there, Step Two gently and very gradually began to infiltrate my life. - Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 27 Thought to Ponder . . . I saw, I felt, I believed. AA-related 'Alconym' . . . Acceptance, Belief, Change.
