ok im on my way down as i posted earlier and i have a bunch of suboxone i am going to take when i get down. how low should i get and how long should i wait after my last dose to start taking the suboxone and about how much will i need comin down off 80 mg's after 2 months. i was on dope for about 3 years before that.
You will need to get below 30 mgs of meth before starting Sub.
After your last dose of meth, you need to wait until you are in w/d's before taking any Sub - - or else it will put you into intense w/d's and then will take a couple of days until you feel better and can get stabalized with the Sub!!
Everyone is different, but the typical wait is 48 - 72 hours between last meth dose and start of Sub.
** For many reasons, I recommend that you keep a log / journal to write down the amount and time you take your Sub every day **
THE FOLLOWING INFO IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!!!! When you take your first dose of Sub, be sure to only take 2 mgs or less to start with!!!!! Sub takes 90 minutes to peak. (But you will feel it starting to work in just minutes...) If you start feeling worse in the first 30 minutes, DO NOT take any more Sub!!! That happens if you've started the Sub too soon after stopping the meth .... you will need to wait before trying again
Assess how you're feeling after 30 minutes. If you notice some improvement, you can take another 2 mgs 30 - 60 minutes after your first dose. Then wait the full 90 minutes for it to peak before assessing again to see if you need more or not. You can take more Sub in 2 mg increments until you feel "almost normal". (I say that but it's usually 1 - 3 days until you are stabalized and your body gets used to the Sub - so if you feel a bit "off", that is typical)
Then just listen to your body for the rest of the day. Continue to periodically take small doses of Sub as needed to keep the w/d's away.
At the end of the day, add up the total mgs of Sub that you took all day. That should be the approximate amount that you will take for day two, but split into 2 doses (am & pm) instead of a bunch of doses thru the day. So say you ended up taking a total of 12 mgs the first day, you will take 6 mgs in the am of day 2 and the other 6 mgs in the pm. You may need to adjust a little up or down depending on how you feel the first few days. After that, you should have a consistant daily dose that is split for am & pm.
You're now set to take your Sub for the amout of time you and your Dr agree on and then you can taper down and jump off.
IMO you should taper to an extremely small dose before jumping off - like 1/8th of a milligram!!! It makes a big difference cause Sub really is that powerful, although most Sub Dr's are clueless about it ....
Wow!! I did not mean to type so much!!! I'm sorry it turned into a book!! Hope you were able to read it all and get something good from it .... LOL
Good luck and keep posting!!!
If you ask more questions, I promise to not type another book!!
You don't have to taper all the way down to 5 mg methadone. The protocol is get to 30 mg and then wait till you are in moderate withdrawals, usually 2-3 days. Can be longer or shorter depending on how you metabolize methadone.
you can also take short acting opiates like hydro or perks and ,maybe even H , for 5 days to get the methadone out of your system.
Then in about 12-18 hours you can easily start the suboxone.
This is what my doc told me to do!
