Default Tapering off of methadone. Help with clonidine and vistaril

    Hello all,
I am in the process of detoxing from methadone (9 years, up to 100mgs at one point). I stopped at 15mgs about 6 months ago on a slow detox. But decide recently to take back my life from tihs rough drug. I am detoxing 1 mg per day. Down to 3 mgs today. Last night was really rough. I didnt sleep a bit, tossed and turned all night. Im staying very positive and upbeat, and am excited to be done with this. What i could use some help with is if anyone could provide me with some advice on: how to use clonidine and vistaril. My clinic no longer gives out "kick packs" and doesnt seem to know how to administer and for how long to take. So, im blessed to have a doctor friend who's prescribed me these two drugs with the understanding that i first spend the time learning how to appropriately use them before taking. In particular, because i am taking approx 20-30 mgs of diazapam (valium) daily to deal with anxiety.
Does anyone have experience detoxing of methadone successfully with clonidine and vistaril? Is the valium neccessary at this point?
Im worried im not going to sleep at all again tonight and would love some feedback with the hopes that the two meds in question may help a bit with the pain and inability to sleep.
Thank you so much in advance.

    Welcome to ODR Edub,
Sundays are kinda slow sometimes but some people will be along in the next day or two to help you with their experience and info. In the meantime, I'm giving you the link to our Best of the Best threads. There is a lot of good information in them that could help you with your taper and withdrawal.

You're doing great so far by getting yourself down to 3 mgs and it's probably gonna be hard on you for awhile. There are plenty of wonderful people here who have been where you're at and will support you til you don't need it anymore and then some.

Oh and my opinion about Valium...If you feel you must use it, try not to use it daily and very sparingly. That addiction is a whole other story and usually a worse one.

Welcome to the Methadone Detox forum edub :) And yes, way to go getting down to 3 mgs.

In a way it might have been a good thing to get good and used to 15 before dropping off the rest of the way. Right around 15 is where a lot of people have trouble and I'm guessing it was getting a little difficult and that's why you held.

Anyway I think clonidine will help withthe restless legs and heeby-jeebies. I don't know if it will help you sleep, but for me it made the nights easier.

Other than clonidine, I didn't take anything when I kicked so I can't comment on the other things other than to say that being addicted makes us anxious, getting free will cure your anxiety far better than a benzo can. I'm not a fan of them - I've seen too many addicts get strung out on them...and if you think opiate wd is bad, wait until you experience a benzo wd!

Please don't take offense at my comments I come from a position of total abstenence - It's what worked, and the only thing that ever worked, for me.

I hope you'll share with us how it's going. I love to see people getting free of MM - It's tough, and so cool to watch someone make it - reminds me of when I turned my life around :)

Hang in there. You made it to 15mgs and there is smthn to be said for that.
I'm sure you work, most of us do smthn for income. When I can't sleep.. I don't try. Its changed my life. I'm not saying good or bad. But tossing around listening to dust mites fart isn't my idea of rest.
Hobbies, writing, books, games..hell yardwork. I do it all to stay busy.
You will sleep, it may not be when you want but you will sleep.
I'm not familiar w/your scripts, and won't comment on them.
I too can get most anything but I'm trying to stay with naturals: valerian, melatonin. The work GREAT for me. The melatonin can build in my system though and I have to stay on tp of it. Also a good multi, calcium, and magnesium and I take it all before dinner. Sometimes I don't make 10:30 pm.
    I also didn't mention I'm @ a much higher dosage. I'm down to 50mgs now. Dropping almost 10% a day is A LOT!
    I hope this helps.
Oh and I go by the dosage on the btl except the calcium and magnesium.
Stay in touch and MUCH LUCK!!
Sounds like your most the way there. Snapper
