i have been on methadone for about 3 months about to get my first takehomes in august. people have made really bad remarks about meth but i dont know if it is bad or not all the research i have done turned out to be good except for those who are trying to get off meth. but i love it it makes me feel so good without having to chase pills all over the place. i use to get up at 6 in the morning and take my boyfriend to work. my son and i . then i would head for the pill house if i had money.if not i traveled 30 miles to my mothers house and begged for 25 or 30 bucks. sometimes she wouldnt have it but i would always talk her into writing a check even if she didnt have and money in the bank her checking account got about 200 dollars in the hole cause of my pill habit. if my mother would give in her mother my 77 year old grandmother who draws a 500 dollar check monthly i would beg her to give it to me. one of them would always give it to me. i mean it got to where i was getting 75 to 100 weekly from them. this was only for loratabs. well after my morning supply of only 4 or 5. 7.5 or 3-4 tens i would make it sometimes till lunch but sometimes only till 10 oclock when i would go to work early my boss and coworker another girl were getting on them also so i would get loans off my check make the trip back from my job to the pill house again. its 30 miles to my moms. 40 miles to the pill house from my moms.then 25 minutes from the pill house to my hometown.so thats how many miles i drove. when i would go back for my work people i would buy myself maybe 4 to 6 more. if i got 4 i would take all of them. then when my bfriend got home we would go back cause he would go borrow 25 from his mom me 2 and him 2 he had no idea that i had been taking allday. if so he would have been really upset. this went on for i know 4 years then the last 2 of the drug addiction me and my boyfriend had we started shooting k-4s as often as possible. we would take anything to get high from opiates. he started to shoot things he didnt know anything about. then he started using fentanol patches or however it spelled. i tried once but didnt like them. so he would use one for 3 days and i only had to pay for my pills alone. untill he had bought all he could for the month. now we were spending 2500 to 3000 a month to some thats not much but when thats all u have its alot we pawned everything we had 2 400 dollar guns. playstation and took the playstation 2 back got money back for it. also an x box we pawned and a tv we lost everything a car and a 98 toyota tacoma extended cab all for pills. then pills got scarce kinda hard to find one day. we found 4 this particular morning and my boyfriend went into extreme withdrawals. i had taken many more than 2 he didnt know but ifelt if i didnt tale a lot i could not stay alive so really i never done without. when i got home from work him and his mother were sitting in the livin room. the first thing they told me was that they had ask the preacher to pray and try to help him he was in severe pain and tossed and turned moaned and groaned all day looked really bad
i felt kinda bad. but his mother had to take him to east alabama in the middle of the night. to try and get them to admit him/ they said he wasnt bad enough. so they gave him ativan shots till he had enough to cut the edge off of the withdrawals. i expected him to not come back with his mother but he did at 3 in the morning. i was happy i didnt want him to go cause i needed help too and noone knew about it cause we now have 2 kids and i was afraid we would loose them. that day after my boyfriend came home or 2 days later we went to the methadone clinic with only enough money for one person to start it was fate that that day they had a special going half price for new patients i had ate 4 tens on the way cause i was just gonna take pills for a couple days let him start then when i got paid i was gonna start. but it turned out for the best. since we have been going we have money all the time. spend time with our kids and go to church a lot. sometimes people at my c

Claudine: Hmmmmmm your GP writes your Meth scripts???? Imagine that, i had such a heck of a time to even get mine from pain specialists. I was told by my primary physician he "don't do methadone". What area are you from??? Im in NJ.

Yeah Essence that's how it works here, and in most of Europe i think..It really makes a big difference....one isnt as much a "slave" to the meth,i go to my gp every 2 weeks and she writes me the script that i then fill at my local pharmacy..It makes a big difference coz you're almost like a "normal person", its really not much different from any other kind of medication..When you start out you have to go through a meth clinic, then after a week or two..or several years..depending how responsible they decide you are...they pass you along to a gp in your area...most people pass on quickly to the local-gp regimen, those that stay at the clinic are only the very bad social cases, homeless etc,who really wouldnt be able to follow treatment on their own or couldnt be trusted with 14 days of meth all at once...I must say i really appreaciate this system, its one of the good things about Europe,it really liberates you from the slavery of drugs...coz having to go to a clinic every morning to drink your dose is really restrictive on your freedom..of course some people NEED the close supervision a clinic offers..however even when you pass on to your gp you're always welcome to return to the clinic for meetings,to see the social workers, shrinks,gp,nurses,or whoever else you might need to consult...Its fast too..no waiting..if you walk in asking for treament you'll start right away ,the same day(after seeing the doctor) or the next morning(but then they'll give you pills/scripts to get through the night)..its also 100% free..We do have nationalized health here, but the clinic doesnt even ask you for your ss health id number/card(or even ask if you have it),no id,nothing...they just consider that you have a bad/urgent health problem and need to be treated NOW..no money,no questions asked...
This is one of the good things about Europe..I grew up in NYC and have seen my friends desperately want to stop drugs and be told to wait a few months to MAYBE..if theyre lucky..get into some program...but even then ,before treating you you'll either have to pay or give insurance info(if you're lucky enough to have insurance!...At least here if youre on drugs, sick and hurting, you can go to any gp and he'll give you some pills to stop the hurting,or subutex(a gp can give you anything except meth,to give meth he has to have an introductory letter from a meth clinic saying theyve determined you need meth and what dose you need),you can also just go to the emergency room at any hospital and theyll give you whats needed to stop the pain...I remember a friend of mine in NYC who was strung out on dope, had tried to get in a meth clinic and was told to wait a few months,he was very sick at that point so went to the emergency room at bellevue hospital in NYC...but they kicked him out when he explained his problem, saying "they had REAL sick people who were suffering and needed to be treated and couldnt waste their time on drug addicts like him..."..that's a nice attitude huh for a health care worker(presumably either a doctor or nurse)I find it really surprising that the US,who in most things is usually so much more advanced than other countries,is so far behind in drug related treatments...I think the problem stems from a somewhat judgemental attitude instead of just considering drugs a medical problem...Either way im very thankful for the way methadone is given here, its free'ed me and given me back my life..Sure,i do intend to stop completely at some point and live without meth, but meanwhile im leading a very normal life:sure i have to go to my gp twice a month and drink a

Any GP in the U.S. can prescribe Methadone for pain, but not for addiction. I've been fortunate in that regard, as I only have to see my doctor 3 times per year for my scripts. In spite of this I still regret my decision to go on Methadone two years ago. Yes it's cheap ($30 a month)and no standing in line at a clinic, but hindsight being 20/20 I would have been better off finding a doctor to prescribe Buprenorphine and detoxed then. One thing I will say in defence of Methadone however, is that it bought me the time to realize that I probably didn't really need to be on opiate pain killers at all. When I was prescribed Oxycontin I was too busy abusing it to even consider being honest with myself. Now, I am sick of the sweating, weight gain, and the rest of the side effects of this drug...

I think i'm going to ask my doctor for Ditropan. This sweating thing is really staring to get embarrasing. I can't even go to a restaurant or any indoor place that I break into a sweat when the temperature rises above 65 degrees F. ANYBODY out their currently using this and does it really stop the sweating. I read up a little on the med and know it's a timed release pill and used for bladder problems as well. Thank [:I]

I just talked to my MD and expalined the sweating thing to him. I also mentioned Ditropan but he said it would not be a good idea on taking that drug that i'm to young and could cause some bladder side effect. So insted he prescibed me Propanolol it's a cardiac drug that slows your heart rate and he said will reduce sweating a little. Anything i'll try because man if their was a sweating contest in Alaska I probably still would take first place.:D

just wanted to add that my doc also gave me tenormin which reduces your heart rate and as soon as i took that i stopped having the "hot flashes"(suddenly getting real hot and flushed and breaking out in a small sweat),though i continued "regular sweating" more than one should..but since i have a family-linked blood pressure and fast heart rate problem i thought it was caused by that and not the methadone...to reduce the general sweating the ditropan helped alot..but like i said you cant take it if you have any kind of liver or kidney/bladder problems..i dont think age matters much,im 29 myself, but my doc said that this medicine(Ditropan) is mainly given to children to stop them wetting their beds at night,so i figure it cant be too harmful...Also i found that taking even half a pill takes care of my sweating for several days..the first day is a bit disagreable in that you're very thirsty and have dry mouth but then the next day or so is perfect, the dry mouth etc is gone and yet your sweating remains in control..Of course like all medication the effects will vary from one individual to another..also only a doctor that knows your personal health + health history can know whether this stuff is appropriate for YOU..but its worth looking into,as a sugggestion!

I agree i'm sure the Ditropan won't kill me but i'm in his hands and am stuck with the propanolol. Anything even if it helps a little to stop the sweating i'll try at this point. I'mm sweating just sitting hear at the keyboard as I type.[8D]

I have been put on methadone 3 times as a out patiant and I have never had to give a number or health card in Toronto,or had to pay anything. This last time though getting out of prison in B.C. I had to get a pharmacard for medical bills. At the ARF (Addiction Research Foundation) in Toronto I never had to pay anything. In Canada I think each province has abit of a different health care system. Things have also changed alot since I have been on the street. Here in BC the clinic is privately owned and I only go there twice a month to see the methadone doctor and get my script and urine tested. I still pick my juice up at the Drug store though. In Toronto we got our juice all at the same place at the ARF clinic and it was free. I too am tired of the side effects but I don't want the other lifestyle what using and scoring brings. So for now methadone is the lesser of the two.Stay Strong and Keep Centered!Andy

Hi, everyone. I am new to this website. And have posted a few......... I am 28 yrs old, live in NJ, and am currently at 22mg of methadone and am detoxing at 1 mg /day from 55 for quite a while now. I know all about the sweating. It often feels like a wave of a hot flash. I, unlike most people on the forum , am going it cold turkey. It is very difficult latley. I have posted a a lot concerning depression, and the like ie: a lot of the physical as well as mental withdrawl symptoms.....
