    Default How do you pronounce.....

    I'm very naive to these new medications, as many can see by my other posts. I have been on Methadone for a little over a year and have tapered from 110 mg to 39 mg. I'm very curious about switching to something else (which I am currently researching). Can anyone tell me how to pronounce:

    buprenorphine
    Subutex
    Suboxone

    Sorry to ask such a dumb question, but I'm going to feel even dumber questioning my clinic about medications that I can even pronounce.

    TIA
    Linda

    Hi Linda, even if I were to attempt to try an tell you how to pronounce the names of these drugs chances are you would'nt understand...My advise would be to jot them down and take them with you to the doctor...When you show them to him/her they will tell you how to pronounce them and they will know exactly what they are...Good luck to you :)

    Take Care & God Bless :)

    Buprenorphine = (boop-ra-nor-feen)

    Subutex = (sub-you-tex)

    Suboxone = (sub- ox-own)

    Hope that helps!

    At your level you could make the switch to subutex. You'll start with subutex for the first few days then move to suboxone. They say they act identical but I found it much easier to cut off suboxone.

    It took about 11 weeks to be totally done. I possibly could have done it in 8-10 but lingered a bit. It was almost totally painless, and when I got off the worst I had was bad fatigue and some low level depression. It gets better each day but I suspect it will be 3 or 4 months before I'm 100%

    Thanks for the post diavolo, that helped! Nutzmom welcome to the forum! I am in the middle of doing a methadone switch too! Congrats! I don't know how much you have looked around the forum, but this is a very helpful place. Lot's of people here to help and here if you want to vent a bit too! We hope you stick around. Like I said I am currently doing a methadone taper (a very slow one!) to switch to suboxone, and if you ever want to talk, or anything please feel free. I may have a question or two for you too! Again, welcome!
