Default I can't pay for my methadone, HELP

    Hello everyone,

I am in desperate need of some help and/or advise. I go to a methadone clinic where I have been doing great. I have been clean because of it now for over a year. The problem is I am a cash patient meaning I have to pay $250.00 dollars every month and I have no income right now. I can't get medi-cail from the state because I don't have a child living with me and although I have alot of disabilities and problems I do not have SSI and it would take me a long while to try and get it. In the mean time I have no way to pay this clinic. I use to get methadone from a pain management clinic but that was over a year ago now and I know Dr's won't prescribe methadone in place of a substance abuse problem or to avoid withdrawl. I have been thinking about this for over a year now and am a burden on my family because of it and they are all out of money and support and I just don't have any ideas left. Does anyone know what I can do? Is there any other way to get state med-i-cal?? I am trying to get a job too but I have gotten zero calls. PLease help!

I'm sorry I don't have a solution for you. I can only offer you moral support and prayers. There may be a free in or even outpatient program available in your area. If your current daily dose is not too high maybe you can use this as an opportunity to just get off it altogether. I mean you say you were ok and clean, but when you think about it you were just using a legal/different form of your DOC (opiates) and spending an arm and a leg doing it. If you get clean for real, no opiates at all, you might have better luck getting a job, getting on with your family, getting on with your life? I know this is not the answer you were looking for, but I hope you will consider it. I last took methadone a few months ago and I am so glad it's out of my life. I truly do pray you get what you need.

Please check out www.atwatchdog.org. They are advocates for meth patients and can probably help you.

I'm pretty sure there is a fairly new law (about 3 years old maybe) that says if you drop "clean" (methadone only) for two consecutive years that you can get a methadone script from any private doctor (OBOT; outpatient based opiate treatment?). The Watchdog people can tell you more about it.

Now I'll add my own 2 cents. As the poster above says, this may be a good time to consider a taper to get off this substitute drug.
