    Default Three weeks opiate free

Today is week three being opiate free.
Little over three years ago I had a back injury and the docs prescribe Lortab and some muscle relaxer, worked OK. When the script was out the doc would not prescribe a re-fill, so a friend of mine said "Here, try one of these". Being in pain that’s what I did and boy did it work and I liked it. My biggest mistake was not doing research on this medication and how addicting it was. At my highest dosage was 5 to 6 (10mg) a day. NO Pain and I was on top of the world. So here I am three years latter buying these off the street and selling enough to support my habit. I was caught in a catch 22 not knowing how to get out. I had tried to quit many times before but as most of us, if not ALL had tried before, lot easier said than done. F**K W/D's just give me a pill and let’s get outta here!!

So this time it was going to be different. I WANTED OUT!! I did a lot of reading on many forums and to make a long story short, when someone starts taking MMT they do not [u]start</u> at a high dose, they work their way up. So my plan was to start high and sloooooly wean down. My plan was to take 6 months and taper down. The six month mark was three weeks ago. Last night was the first night that I did not wake up sweating and I slept ALL night. I am not going to say it was easy as the first two weeks were hell. I am just glad I had a supportive spouse and was able to still work. But it was all worth it so far. Today is Friday and I fell REAL good. I have my OWN energy, my legs, arms and body does not ach anymore (we will see tonight) and I can concentrate on what I am doing. I have read ALOT of heart wrenching stories on how MMT has changed their life after spiraling down from other street drugs and if you are in this position and MMT has turn your life around for the better, kudos to you and keep on keeping on!! I just wish that a drug with this much benefit to so many should not be regulated by the government for their [u]PROFIT</u> but should be easier access for those who need it.
For all that want to wean off set your mind to it, be committed and do NOT let anyone or anything get in your way. All the best- Life is Good. Tinman.

    Way to go Tinman!
Congratulations on making it off methadone. I think you're right, really setting your mind to it is so important, that, and having reached the point where you really are ready to change.

Personally, I don't think of methadone as having any special benefit - other than the fact that it's legal. When the time comes to kick, you suffer the same withdrawal as with heroin or morphine - worse actually.....In any event, I understand completely your wanting to get free

Stick around Tinman. Let us know how it's going. I'd encourage you to read around. Theres quite a few of us who have made it off and I think it's fair to say you've got to stick with it. It was quite a while before I really felt normal.

OK, like I said Friday was three weeks clean and that night I got a great night sleep. And I thought I was over the hill then last night they came back and it SUCKED!! When I am doing something thought the day either I do not notice them so much or just keeping so busy my mind/body is being occupied. Is it normal to feel OK one night then hell the next and how long will I have to deal with it? Trying REAL hard to kick this thing!!!

Yes it's normal. 3 weeks clean is still acute withdrawal for methadone. You sound like you're doing really well at 3 weeks though. Already a great nights sleep tells me this. This will be behind you before you know it.

    Hello Tinman!
You had posted on my thread and I appreciated it so much. I'm just starting my taper today after trying cold turkey. No thanks. How are you doing? You said you had a good night and thought it was getting better, then a bad one. I know how discouraging that must be. Good job on being tough and getting up and going to work. Somedays, I know how hard that is. When you were on the last part of your taper, 1/4 pill every other day, were you feeling strong withdrawl then or not until you quit all together?
Hang in there buddy. You have done most of the hard work. The sun is getting ready to shine bright in your life.

    Hey Lookingup,
To answer your question I only had W/Ds when I stopped taking them altogether 3 to 4 days into it, I will not go into details, we all have been there. Today is 3 weeks 3 days and I feel OK no I feel GREAT !!!!!!!!! With the occasional rapid amp rush feeling and at night a little cramping but the wife tells me while I am sleeping I am VERY restless (thankfully I am sleeping) that is probably why I am sore when I wake. I will tell anyone and ALL that the first and foremost of getting off these is [u]YOU REALLY MUST WANT OFF !!! </u> No half steeping. Do not get 4, 5, 6 days into and say I cant handle it. Say I CAN do it; It will be over soon and tomorrow will be a better day for it. Something I did was I always had 1 pill around just to ease my mind, this may not work for all but it was a mind game I could play with myself. Like when I quit smoking cigs I always had one in my pocket and the day I broke that cigarette in half was the day I knew my smoking days were over. That was 8 years ago. In return, the day I flush this little white demon down the drain I will have beaten it... That day will be soon....

    Justonemore,
Thanks for asking. Today is Four weeks and three days and I feel great. I wrote in another post that when I quit smoking cigs I always had a cigarette in my pocket and when I broke it in half I knew that I had concord that demon, that was eight years ago. I have a little white demon in my brief case and I am about 4 days from flushing it to the leach field it belongs in. LIFE IS GREAT!! It was all worth the bullsh*t and discomfort I went through. I probably shouldn’t say this but I turned my habit into a business and all that money is being put aside for another Harley. I did it MY way... and so can you.!!!
