Default Cold turkey from 140 mg, Can it be done?

I am curently at 130 mg and I am sick and tired going to the clininc and paying $250 per month. I was thinking about doing the fee detox. Heres how it works; I am at 140, but I cant pay, so they drop me to 99mg, next day 70mg, next day 50 mg. You get the jist, in one week you are done. You can pay the money and start over. obviously I wouldn't start at 140mg, but they will get me stable. If I get stable at 50mg that would be awesome.
My other ultimatum is going cold turkey. Stock up on the Gator Aid, Anti-dairrea meds and I have about 100 xanax my MD prescrbed, those will get me some sleep. I get 6 take homes a week and I can go three days without methadone, I can save these bottles and when I can't stand the pain anymore I'll take just enough to stop the pain. What does everbody think I should do? Also, I'm on unemployment for 5 more months so calling in sick is not an issue.

personally(imo) going c/t will be horrific...it will take a month or two of extream w/ds...people have done it , but its going to be HORRIBLE..there are people here that may suggest it...but comming from a high dose...I doubt it..imagine whatever drug you were on ...think of detoxing from that and times it by 100...even that quick taper will cause you pain..can you go to an inpatient detox were they lower you over time ..fast but not too fast...thats what I did comming off of 60 mgs after 10 years and I survived...I think you should do what you think is right, but going cold like that will be very bad..I know you want it done quick and I dont blame you, Im only 29 and just gotten off...but the pain may be more than what you think...to be homnest..and I know people here may not like my opinion...DONT do it like that...just drop as they had said..it will still suck, but you wont be in as much pain...can you find a good detox place?

cwenger, it is very possible if you set your mind to it. WD's are different for everyone. Odds are that it will probably be pretty bad, but you don't know until you try. Give it a try and see for yourself. I am afraid far to many people put of stopping because of the fear of WD's and you hear over and over again....it wasn't as bad as I was expecting or I wish I would have done this years ago!!!! The point is, you don't know until you try. God Bless you and keep us posted!

CW...are you saying that financially you have to do a feetox or are you saying that you elect to do it? I'm confused, babe because you mentioned then being on a dose of 50mg.

how long have you been on it, weeks, months, years?
if you've been there for a short time, go ahead, but be ready to face the consequences.
if you've been there years, i would work on tapering as quickly as possible without putting yourself through hell. or take a long time off work

good luck with everything i live in england and find the methadone system quite different here unless you work you do not have to pay for a methadone script they also seem to prescibe higher doses in the usa and i guess that is probably to do with getting people hooked on large amounts so you keep paying to get your meds that must be real hard. I hope all works out for you im detoxing too but only off 40mls im down to 30mls now and trying not to use on top

Hey CWenger I just wanted to check in and see how you were? Did you do the CT route or did you find a way to slowly taper down? Hope everything is going OK with you. Please check in and let us know.

Ok, what Dr. prescibed 100 xanax to a patient on methadone?? first lets slap him!!! ok

No amount of xanax will help ct methadone detox, it should be avioded, my best friend got kicked of the clinic for diverting
decided to take xanax for detox, then he over-dosed, it will never be enough.

I have personally detoxed ct off 140mg of methadone that I had been on for a year, I was in jail the second time, the first time I was so young, I remember just feeling sick for 2 weeks, my last ct methadone detox landed me in icu ONLY for one reason, I had several serious medical issues.
I am a hard core ct fan for those who canot taper, canot go into a facility and those who DO NOT have medical problems.
I was terrified each time I had to quit methadone, It seemed like the pain would never go away,,, it did!!! and it will for you!!
Please do yourself a favor, find some NA folks to help you with this!!! Hope was the best thing I found to help me during detox, I had hope that if I quit this sh*t,,, I would have a great life. Through the pain I tried to have faith that things would get better.
