Default How long to be addicted to Methadone?

I am trying to stop using IV oxy at about 400 mg a day IV... Basically because I am out of money and have a LOT of stressful issues in my life right now I decided to do methadone detox.

After reading the horror stories here I am really re-thinking this. I have told the clinic that I am not real enthused about the methadone and am not willing to do anything more than a 21 day detox.

My goal is to try and get clonidine from my primary care physician and go C/T. I am not sure she is going to help me with it, she is NOT very helpful in this at all.

I had been on Ambien for 6 years prior to me going to detox and admitting my opiate problem to her.. After detox she refused to give me any ambien.. I called and went in probably 15 times, begging because I couldnt sleep. Eventually, because of some pain and lack of sleep, I relapsed.

I cannot speak with the clinical director until Tuesday, which will be my 5th day on 30-40 mg on 'done.... Will I be addicted by then? How about 21 days? Will I be addicted by then?

I have so much to live for, so many reasons to quit. I know I have to, or I will kill myself. Literally, if I cant quit I think I will end up killing myself because of the guilt. I have ruined my life and I have been blessed with the most amazing daughter, and loving girlfriend in the world. I feel as if I dont deserve them and every time I look at them I crumble inside.

Sorry for the ramble, the questions are about the methadone or any ideas. The rest is just me getting my thoughts out.

    Thanks

Okay, honey...breath. And again. Its going to be okay.

Look, sweetie...you've got a fairly large habit going on and its IV. If you can't go inpatient detox, I don't think you've got a lot of options.

There are two that come to mind....the first would be to get something like Percodan and use it in diminishing doses...in PILL form...not IVing to wean yourself off of the Oxycontin IV. Doing a self-taper is difficult and I frankly have no clue as how to convert the amount of IV Oxy into Percodan pill doses. Perhaps someone else does.

The other option...and you'll have to be exceedingly careful...is to do an outpatient Methadone detox. Not maintenance...talking detox. I would NOT suggest a 21 day detox. That's right at the line of maintenance and odds are high that the Clinic will take you over the line.

Will they let you do a 7-10 day outpatient detox?

They really were not too keen on me doing even a 21 day detox.. They dont think its long enough.. I see the trap, I am trying to avoid it.

I am basically left with these options... Cold turkey or 21 day methadone detox. I simply cannot afford financially to buy any pills.

Last December I had 124k in my account, Yesterday I was served with foreclosure papers and today I bounced my first check ever.

I THINK I can go C/T if I can get my hands on some clonidine. I just dont want to take the methadone so long that I am addicted to it while trying to figure out if my doc is going to give me clonidine.

I refused to go to 40 mg's of methadone today and I ended up doing 2 oxy's. Arlene--- you are an amazing person with an amazing story. I want so badly to be a success story and not a statistic

My last detox wasnt unbearable ( except for 1 day) but it was with the help of clonidine, buspar, Ativan and ambien.

All I have this time is buspar and Clonipin, I think that clonidine might be the deal maker.

Im not even 100% sure I will w/d horribly because I have only been back on for about a month. The clinic is basically telling me that I wont be able to stop on my own and that I failed last time so I am doomed to fail this time etc... The sad thing is that they truly bellieve in the things they say

While at the clinic I ralked to a girl in her early 20's who was SOOO excited that she had gotten her life back. She is on 100 mg of methadone for 3 months. When I asked her waht she was using prior to methadone, she told me about 20 mg of Hydro for 3-4 months. I almost started crying...

I just have a feeling that they, are purposely or not, are setting me up for a maintenance program when I told them explicity that the MOST I am willing to do is 21 days.

    Please help with any advice

I wrote on your other post....Dont let them do maitmence!!!!!!!!!!! if you do 21 day detox you wont really become addicted to meth because they will be lowereing you..and you will feel it a bit, youre just playing with the fact that they will keep you on it longer which is riducules considering its only been a month..if youre not to scared go c/t or insist they not keep you on more than 21 days and no a few days on meth is not enough to get you addicted

My friend, EVERYONE is different, no one can tell you how long you should be on Done. Its really something you gotta feel out, do you still get high shooting up? Or does it just keep you from withdrawing? I was shooting 1000+mgs Oxy and 5 grams heroin a day not getting high at all, just not getting sick. So I chose methadone because it is strong and my body has the tollerance of a bull elephant. I am at about a month on Meth, 70 mgs, and I am just now reaching the point where I do not have to supplement my dose with street dope. So a 21 day taper would not work for me, it would merely leave me with a huge hole that only shooting IV can fill. Like I said everyone is different try and dose the minimum amount to keep you from being sick and craving and decide from there where to go.

You are an IV user and while most everyone here will tell you the horrors of methadone. Not having to shoot up every 2 hours kinda makes me dismiss them. I am not here to push methadone on you, if you dont need it thats fantastic, I just wanted to give you a different perspective. You dont want to detox off Methadone only to realize you need something and go back to using, with a higher tollerance ofcourse. For me it is a miracle, drink some liquid once a day and not have my life TOTALLY CONSUMED by the trouble of keeping enough drugs on hand and ALL THE BULLHIT that comes with shooting. Good luck.

    Best,
    -Damien

    Damien,
You've told us this about 4 posts in a row now. We all know the reasons why people go on methadone. Ours is a site devoted to detox and recovery and I've already spoken to you about that both on the forum and in private message.

Please respect our board and refrain from posting messages that promote, or glorify the use of drugs.

Dave as I posted I am not pushing methadone on anyone, and when it comes down to it, methadone is 100 times better for me than what I WAS doing. WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT, one persons detox plan may not gonna work for another. This forum is for active methadone users, or so it says...

How am I promoting or gloryifying use? My life was nothing when I was using IV every day, maybe you dont beleive I was using that much but think about it if I was how much my life would revolve around it. I must walk on eggshells because I am not against methadone???

    Uhhhh...sir

This site is for those interested in either: 1) Alternatives to methadone. or 2) People on methadone interested in coming off and what would be the best taper method(s) to do so and various types of support systems to aid in recovery as well. This forum is NOT for people who want to stay on methadone.

Considering what you were doing, anything but death would be better. You are using a harm reduction protocol. Nothing more. There no attempt at changing the premise that you need drugs to live/operate. You are just using "safer drugs".

After all, would we even have this discussion if heroin were legal, high quality and not too expensive? Probably not. It would be no different than an alcoholic. You would just go to the store and buy your drugs just like them. Which is why I actually believe it should be legal. So for those who are just interested in more reliable drug access could do so. I hate to say it, but I think you fall into that camp....

For those who want to change the premise that drugs are necessary, well...now that's different....

But you know quite well what this forum is for...and quite honestly I think you are being deliberately "trollesque" in your statements. There are other websites for those who find methadone their savior.

For those who disagree with methadone being the answer to go to methadone advocate websites would also be "trollesque". Stop trying to change what can't be changed. This is not a free for all site for debate of ideas. This is a site for detox. But you know this. So start acting like you do.

Trolls...ack trolls....I am such a sucker for them.....

"Here you will find discussion, HELP, support, and encouragement from those who have detoxed from Methadone and are living drug free, people currently detoxing or tapering from Methadone, CURRENT METHADONE PATIENTS" quote

I am a current methadone patient, answering someones question, nothing more. And if heroin were legal, I would still be on methadone, not sticking myself until my arms are black. Maybe only serious hardcore IV users can understand this as they know the pure hell that addiction to the needle is.

I am sorry you do not agree, I am not flaming you so please if you have nothing nice to say, you know how it ends....

This is not a question of "nice". And as for the "current methadone patients", that involves those who are at least interested in getting off methadone. The HELP involved is for detoxing. NOT in how to use methadone for maintenance.

So fine, you wouldn't use heroin, you would buy the less harmful (at least not sticking in your arms, I guess) methadone. This is NOT an advocacy site for methadone and you are talking like an advocate. You know this. Forget the "answering questions". There are other sites for you and you know it.

I don't care how "nice" this sounds.....

    Yes...Omni...absolutely all true.

And this is also a recovery site. And on this forum that means recovery from Methadone.

There is only one ODR. There are scads of MMT advocacy sites. ODR's Methadone forum seeks to elevate those who have made the decision to come off and walk through a very difficult process.

Promotion of Methadone on this forum is like waving a bottle of booze in front of the alcoholic who's trying to get sober.

And while some opinions may "vary" regarding whether MMT is a route to "recovery"....in this ex Methadone Maintenance addict's experience...the stuff s*cks and is in no way related to recovery.

Methadone ss THE BEST option for me right now. Sooo maybe I am an advocate, even though I CLEARLY state that if you dont need it this is not the best option BY FAR. My life from morning to when I fall asleep was cooking up and shooting, and all the illegal things that go along with it. Risking disease and killing my liver to boot.

I am sorry you cannot accept that for some people methadone is the BEST option. I am done with this post I offered my advice and you guys as always take it off subkect and persicute me. Whatever... Good Luck For Laud.
