Default The music that helps get us through hell and back to earth

I'm new here and rather than posting a thread about my experience, I wanted to start one about the music that inspires us, helps us get through our own personal hell. Even before I was using, anytime I'd need to escape and music was my only option, this is one of the first songs I'd put on. I hope people see this thread and share some of the pieces of music that have helped them.

Hi Valse, Welcome to ODR. Hey I hope, if you're new to recovery, you will reconsider starting a thread about how it's going. There's lots of us who have been through it and a thread can be a journal of your prgress.

Also, we do already have threads where we share music that we like or find helps us in recovery. They are in the "Freedom From Hell - Staying Clean" section. I started one of the threads myself some time ago, called "Recovery music - A Bus to Baton Rouge" named after one of my favorite songs by Lucinda Williams all about looking inside for the issues we carry with us from childhood.

    I hope you'll check it out :)

I like this topic. Being a Punk my heart who loves punk rock, I learned threw my addiction that it that mellow music I now seeing my peers in the world of punk making that touches me when i going threw it. Like frank turner for example, went from a hardcore punk band to now a solo acoustic singer song writter, and he just my point, because there maybe a list of a 100(sum I know)who have put out great punk albums but have grown up, matured, and put out some stuff only true people who love music will understand. I know I'm ranting, but anyone who knows the world of punk, and understands there the world of punk, there people who are true punks that goes beyond the music, will get what i saying. One album i recommend is a album by Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio. his first solo work was a split ep with Kevien Seconds, and well i say find this ep because if you listen to it lyrically you will see it 100% about addiction.

For me it was a full month of bob marley and YouTube videos of live grateful dead music I love but stopped jamming during my addiction. It was like a homecoming for me, the worst detoxing anxiety was a little less bad when jamming out.

So many roads by the grateful dead was/still is my song for this amazing spell of sobriety

Here's to all the youtuber's putting these unbelievable talents out there.. Some of these arrangements and covers are absolutely brilliant. Once you find a star, then you watch a duet, and find another one. This is the gift that keeps on giving.
The music industry is turning on its head. No more picking and choosing for us.

    I love it. Justin
