I have only been on suboxone for the last 36 hours. I am an 18 year heroin addict using 8 to 9 bag/pills per day. What happens if I use on Sub, my last 8mg dose was 6 hrs. ago ?

I just told you what happens! Nothing! You don't get high. You waste your money. You get frustrated.

Forget it and go to a movie, or spend the money on something nice for yourself. The sub will block the H.

I agree with Ash, will be a waste of time and money. And all you are going to do is get pissed off, when you do not get high. Do not ruin all the paved road you ahve went threw.

If at first you do not secceed, try and try again.

The last 13 (or more)posts have absolutely nothing to do with the TOPIC "Getting off SUP/Bup post your experiences"

We are wasting space and making it MUCH harder for new people to find the info they need. (well for anyone.. for that matter) Geesh!

    Hi ,
    Im new to this board.
I am a heroin addict. I have been clean from heroin for 6 months, but now im back on Norco.
I have been taking around 20 pills a day,and it continues to increase everyday.
I made an appointment to start on sub tomorrow.

Last year I tried the maintence program with methdone, and then went into a inpatient detox program for two weeks ,which used methdone too.
I stayed clean for one month and started using Norco.
I've been reading all the information about sub and im wondering if I should only do it for a short period of time. The only thing I am wondering about is the reason I started taking Norco was because I have a back injury, and I am in pain all the time. That's the reason I started using Heroin. But now im a full blown addict.
I want to stay clean ,I have 4 beautiful children ,and im only 33 years old.Any help would be nice...

    Have a blessed day sunshinegirl!!

    I TOOK SUB FOR 8 MONTHS , I SLOWLY WEEN DOWN FROM 2 8MGS A DAY
DOWN TO ONE 2MG ADAY THEN I STATRED BREAKING THE LITTLE 2MG PILL IT 4 PARTS .5 EACH AND STARTED TO TRY TO DETOX WHEN MY LEGS STARTED HURTING AT NIGHT I WOULD TAK A HALF OF A MG WHICH IS 1 .5 AND IT HELPED GREAT
I DID THIS BECAUSE I READ THE POST FROM A GIRL FROM AUSTRAILA ( DOWN UNDER)
HE DID THAT WAY AND SAID WHEN SHE FINALLY JUMPED OF OF .5 EVERY OTHER DAY
SHE FELF A LITTLE CRAPPY FOR A WEEK AND WITHIN A MONTH SHE WAS BACK TO NORMAL, AND SHE WAS COMEING FORM DOING 10 BAGS OF H A DAY WHEN IT ALL BEGAN
HER MOTTO WAS LESS IS BETTER, I AGREE,
SOME ADDICT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF TRYING TO ABUSE THIS STUFF , WHICH
WILL ONLY GET SO CONSTPAITED YOU WILL THINK YOU NEED TO GO TO THE ER,
BUT ALL YOU HAVE TO IS STUFF A SUPOSATORIE IN AND THEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ****.
ALSO OVER TAKEN THEM WILL KEEP YOU UP ALL NIGHT.

I was on Sub for 2 months, and was on 2mg for the last 3 weeks, then 1mg for 4 days, then nothing. In my opinion, the w/d SUCKED, but the acute part only lasted for 5 days. I'm now on day 7 and I can't sleep and I'm pretty weak, but I'm doing much better. I just hope I can sleep a little sometime soon, but I hear it may be as long as 20 days b4 I can sleep like a "normal" person. Hope I make it. I'm acutley aware that the sub is no longer blocking the use of opiates in my system.

    Hi all
I will have to be brief because i am still rattling. I was put onto Subutex after opiate misuse og about a year. i was told by a detox Dr that a 6 weeks taper would be a breeze. Well......I started on 16mg and tapered over 6 weeks to 0.4mg. It was absolutely great, no cravings, no withdrawal symptoms nothing. Then......I stopped the day after I had a full blown rattle, I felt worse than I did when I C/t on my own. & days later and I am still struggling....not as often but still as intence. Man I feel conned. I could have had this over with in 7-14 daYS COLD TURKEY. this has cost me 8 weeks of work just to delay the inevitable. Is this another drug company conspiricy?. There is no miricle drug or withdrawal without pain. I suppose for some it would hold them and get them out of robbing and the rest of the crazy cycle. But it aint magic likr a lot of docs are saying

Jelly, welcome. No it isn't magic and there is no "get out of jail free" card when it comes to getting off opiates.

I'm sorry you went through such a nasty withdrawal. Most people who have been on sub for more than a few weeks seem to get pretty sick. I am surprised you got that sick even though you tapered slowly to 0.4 mgs. But I guess everybody has a different experience on this drug.

Was heroin your DOC? You said you only abused it for about a year? Do you plan to stay off all opiates now?

That is so true, there is no real golden parachute. If anyone ever finds one that eliminates withdrawal, makes me forget what opioids think about, and resets my brain chemistry to pre-addict, I would love them forever and pay a commission.

That said, I think Sub is the next best thing. I considered methadone but ultimately decided it was not for me. I have never been to an inpatient rehab. My previous attempts at quitting were tapers (which never worked) and cold turkey which actually got me the most clean time. Sub is not as fun as being on your opioid of choice, not at all, but it's not supposed to be- it's when you've had enough and need to move on. It took me a while to learn that.

I've been on it on varying doses since the middle of May of this year. I am planning to go off it next month. Whatever happens, happens, I expect to be on a very low dose when I do finally get off it, right now 4 mg. Probably go to 2, then 1, then maybe alternate dosing days and then totally off. But I will definitely get on naltrexone afterwards regardless, I don't completely trust myself so this is a great option for me and I'd like to stay on it for a year before getting off.

Just tapering and detox. Taper as low as he can go,and then get off and suffer threw some detox. Change his lifesytle, go to theraapy or na or some kind of recovery program, and he will have a better chance to stay clean.

Confused, what are the behaviors or problems that he is having with the Sub that are the same as Heroin? Like taking too much or using it to catch a buzz? I am just wondering so I can comment.

Please elaborate on this if you will. Do you see any changes for the better in his behavior? Are you sure he is not using still?

my bf and i have just started tapering off the sub...im on 4mg a day and he is on 8mg daily. my cravings are sneaking in again, but not too bad yet. today i wa sin the hospital (my littl ebrother got burnt pretty bad but hes fine) and they were administering a morphine drip. all the sudden i wanted to jump over the bed and jam it in my arm! of course i didnt...
anyway, these cravings are very scray to me because i havnt felt any since i started the suboxone..but i guess iw ill learn to deal with them.
occassionally i get mild leg cramps...but thats it for the WD. does it get much worse once your totally off? i know people have diff. experiences.. i have skipped a dose or two here and there and not felt much other than the slight cramps... how long does it take for the Bup to get completely out of ur system and the withdrawl to fully kick in?

    Krista,

It takes 3-4 days before the full brunt of the bupe w/d to hit you. 37 hr 1/2 life you still have bupe left in your system after 4 days but not enough to really help ;)

I am so relieved to have read others exeriences in coming off sub and Bup. I worked for almost three years as a nurse in an alcohol/drug rehab. The doctor used Bup I.M. to detox opiate patients (as Bup was only licensed for pain relief and Sub was not yet available, we had to chart that we were giving it for pain associated with opiate w/d) He used a 5 day titrated protocal along with a 21 day clonidine protocal and it seemed to work really well. On the 3rd day of the protocol patients would decrease to a half a vial of Bup (twice a day) and guess who got the other half? I eventually began ordering extra from the pharmacy for myself. The pharmacy bills went straight to the corporate office and were never reconciled with what was counted into stock. I was using it I.V. and because of the long half life I never experienced w/d symptoms on my days off so I was under the impression it was not very addictive. I finally became really disgusted with myself (lies, guilt etc. not to mention wearing long sleeve lab coats in the dead middle of summer in Texas) and being to cowardly to admit my problem up front, I left the evidence to be found. I ended up in rehab and was given Robaxin, Bentyl and Advil for the first few days and felt ok. Then BAM! about 10 days in I began my full blown w/d. Well no one there was familiar with Bup and thought I had been using while in rehab. I was so sick that I coundn't get out of bed and they told me I would have to leave if I didn't attend meetings so I left. I stayed clean for six months and then discovered online pharmacies and for the past eight months have been taking 30-40 norcos a day. I started on Sub yesterday via psychiatrist, 4mg in am and 2mg as needed thereafter. I feel pretty ok right now and have enjoyed reading others experiences on this forum.

Realized I've gone on too long and will make it shorter next time.

    Thanks for listening,
    Bubble

So Bup do you want to explain why I felt fine with no sub for 8 days and then the floor feel out from underneath me. I have been in mild withdrawls since Jan. tapering down on the methadone,to get on bup? *
8 days of feeling wonderful.Than I did not leave bathroom for 2 days. I was to weak. I am somewhat better because I smoked a blunt. I don't continue to use blunts. Went to meeting tonight just made it to the bathroom. Someone was saying at meeting tonight, for ever year your on methadone, it takes a year of recovery for body to get back to normal. PLEASE tell me this is not true.

    Supid question ?

After stopping suboxone and having many problems, would taking tramadol (ultram) and or clonidine help with the w/d's any, without causing more problems.

I know tramadol does help with w/d's and shorterm use is non addictive (to most ppl anyway).

Has anyone (here)tried ultram and or clonidine when in w/d's from stopping (ending) suboxone detox treatment?

If no one (here) has tried it and there is no clinical data or personal experiences in regards to the above question, then.....
This is what I have planned as the last two drugs for my personal detox plan. Two weeks~ tramadol, at, or less than 200mg per day (50mg 4 times per day).
We'll see what I learn between now and it's time ?

Or possibly an anti-depressant by itself, per Springs therapy.

Just something to buffer that last bit of withdrawal, even if only partially.

I have known someone to use it before, in a taper type self detox from hydrocodone and told me it made it much better for them, after having detoxed from the same hydrocodone several years earlier.
My friend/acquaintance obviously only took less than 200mg per day and was only on it for a couple of weeks.
