Aids ... Initial symptoms... Sore throat, Flue like symptoms .. etc.. Hep C Dark urine...Read more:
CDC on Co-infection of HIV and HepC http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pubs/facts/HI...oinfection.htm
Aids Early Symptoms
Many people do not develop any symptoms when they first become infected with HIV. Some people, however, have a flu-like illness within a month or two after exposure to the virus. They may have fever, headache, malaise and enlarged lymph nodes (organs of the immune system easily felt in the neck and groin). These symptoms usually disappear within a week to a month and are often mistaken for those of another viral infection. People are very infectious during this period, and HIV is present in large quantities in genital secretions
Hep-C
Acute hepatitis C is diagnosed on the basis of symptoms such as jaundice, fatigue, and nausea, along with marked increases in serum ALT (usually greater than 10-fold elevation), and presence of anti-HCV or de novo development of anti-HCV.
Diagnosis of acute disease can be problematic because anti-HCV is not always present when the patient presents to the physician with symptoms. In 30 to 40 percent of patients, anti-HCV is not detected until 2 to 8 weeks after onset of symptoms. Acute hepatitis C can also be diagnosed by testing for HCV RNA, but another approach is to repeat the anti-HCV testing a month after onset of illness.
Chronic Hepatitis C
Chronic hepatitis C is diagnosed when anti-HCV is present and serum aminotransferase levels remain elevated for more than 6 months. Testing for HCV RNA (by PCR) confirms the diagnosis and documents that viremia is present; almost all patients with chronic infection will have the viral genome detectable in serum by PCR.
Diagnosis is problematic in patients who cannot produce anti-HCV because they are immunosuppressed or immunoincompetent. Thus, HCV RNA testing may be required for patients who have a solid organ transplant, are on dialysis, are taking corticosteroids, or have agammaglobulinemia. Diagnosis is also difficult in patients with anti-HCV who have another form of liver disease that might be responsible for the liver injury, such as alcoholism, iron overload, or autoimmunity. In these situations, the anti-HCV may represent a false-positive reaction, previous HCV infection, or mild hepatitis C occurring on top of another liver condition. HCV RNA testing in these situations helps confirm that hepatitis C is contributing to the liver problem.

If you were exposed yesterday... Testing today is useless. Talk to a clinic and see what window they recommend.. (how long you need to wait to get anti-bodies so they can test for them)
In the mean time assume you are infected and take universal precautions to not spread it. (Just in case) .. No needle sharing.. use condoms. No Blood to blood... Do not share razors and tooth brushes.
Don't freak out till you test ... Like Ashley said...

Unlike HIV, the HepC virus cannot be killed by bleaching syringes. Please dont share with anyone anymore.
Out of my original group of users from the 70s, those of us who are still alive all tested positive for HepC.
I'm beginning to wonder if it was originally IN the dope itself back then.
Just about everyone I know, all around the coutry, not just here who IVs has HepC.
I never had any symptoms, still dont except for fatigue.
My only reason for getting tested 13 years ago was because a few friends told me they had it. I probably never would have known otherwise.

I'm not sure what to tell you jimjam. I have HepC but don't know what your talking about as far as liver count goes. I've heard of viral load and grade and stage of disease of the liver but I don't know about a liver count of 1-22. Have you had a biopsy?

If it's your ALT liver function, and it is 67, then that is above normal, which is not good. It's also not that bad, either. Mine has been much higher. If it's your AST, then that's also above normal, but again, not that high.
Any liver functions above normal mean your liver is inflamed and that your Hep C is actively damaging your liver. It doesn't mean your are going to get really sick tomorrow. No reason to panic, but a GREAT reason not to drink or use drugs. Alcohol and drugs (and especially alcohol) speed up the damage to your liver, and while hep C usually progresses slowly, you can get sick pretty fast if you abuse your liver by drinking.
Welcome, and stick around, tell us more about you.
