I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for me. I have been on methadone maint. for about 9 months I have gained 25 pounds. i have never had aproblem with weight even when i wasnt using it has really got me down because i am 29 yrs old and i am afraid after 30 i will just keep gaining. I know it is related to the methadone because i still eat exactly as always and i eat fairly healthy and do not overeat. i also walk everyday. I am at 145mg right now so it will be some time before I can taper off.please help!! Thankyou yng4life

Hi Yng4~~ Welcome to the forum..

It does not surprise me at all that Methodone has caused you to gain weight..There are so many people here that are going through that exact same thing.

For some reason Methodone will put weight on you, and it seems that even though you eat right,and walk everyday which is wonderful, It will really not have any to little effect on your weight right now!!
Weight gain seems to effect everyone on Methodone treatment.

I personally do not have any experince with Methodone, but there are so many other members here that have had or are going through the experince now.

If a may make a suggestion to you, You have put your post in the Hep C section of the forum..And you will not get as many replies to your post , I would suggest that you should put your post also in the Methodone Topic section of the forum.. You can find it just a few topics above this section ..ON the main topic page.

I do not know if you have read the posts in the Methodone section, I hope that if you have not that you do and you will see that you are not alone , and also there is tons of information on MMT..

Yes, Yes, and Yes, methadone packs on the lbs. My sister is on your same dosage and gained 40 lbs.

You'll lose it all once you get off it....I don;t know whether its packed with Salt or what but everyone I knwo whose on it gains weight.

Methadone puts weight on you mostly because of slow gut mobility, so nutrients are more absorved that way...
You should try the solutions that are advised to ppl with low-gut-mobility (like drinkings lots of water, move around what u can, etc...).
The thing is.. If you put your bowels moving like they were, you will go back to your natural weight.

I found fiber supplements (Fybogel/Fiber One) and as xOcHiPiLLi said tons ofwater (2ltrs per day minimum) should help beat the bloat

I know that this discussion really belongs in another forum, but I just want to make a quick comment. I have tapered from 80mg/day of methadone to 30mg/day. The weight is pouring off of me. Thank goodness as I had gained 40lbs.
