Cleared from HEP C and now NO antibodies?
Does anyone have any insight into what I have experienced with contracting Hep C? I had repeated tests, all positive and after a period of about 5 or 6 tests I was comming back neg. (in one test I was neg with two types of testing and pos with one, but subsequent tests showed all neg) PCR testing (after three consequtive negs, and normal LFT's showed no virus present. Now I know that this is not so unusual, but what IS, is that lately I have been testing negative repeatedly with NO ANTIBODIES. My body is showing no memory of the virus whatsoever. I did show antibodies for over a year, and my doctor has no answer for this. Has anybody come across this? Know of anyone clearing the virus and the memory of the virus?

You my dear are one of the lucky 1 to 10 % of people that there body fights the virus off. This also happened to me after repeated tests. The first of which showed a viral load of 4 million. My last test showed NEGATIVE for the virus altogether. I am surprised your doc doesn't know this...is he a specialist?
We got a second chance!!!...I'm trying not to blow it...but its hard.

Yes he is the state specialist. Apparently he has said that up to 15-20 percent of Hep C sufferers will clear the virus in the first year and show a viral load of 0. HOwever they will normally always antibodies. Hep C is just like any other strain of Hepatitis in that it will always leave a memory of the virus being present at some stage, long after its cleared. It would be unusual for someone to have hep a or B and not show antibodies, even tho that virus had left the body. Now I understand that people DO clear hep C. But where are my antibodies??! Essentially what my doctor has said is that not only have I cleared the virus, but also any memory of it within my body. No Cynder, I didnt have any treatment, I just stopped using and avoided alcohol (basicly gave my liver a break).. I didnt have a viral load done until after my test results were comming back neg so I cant say how much of the virus I had scuttling around in my blood. All I can think is that I may have not had much. But does this really answer the question of the missing antibodies???? LOL

according to my doc between 1 and 10% of people fight the virus off completely. Mine is also completely gone. No memory...nothing. It is unusual but ,form what I understand, possible. I am very thankful as I am sure you are also! Congrats!!

My doc told me that the antibodies may disappear in the absence of the virus because Hep C produces "weak" antibodies. As opposed to Hep B, where the antibodies persist even after you clear the infection. That's what he told me, I dont know, but congratulations, anyhow and DON'T BLOW YOUR SECOND CHANCE! There's no immunity to Hep C, so you can always get re-infected. Not like a lot of other viruses. Good luck!
