Wellbutrin
I've noticed that alot of us here are on WellButrin at one point or another in this process? This Sticky is to give stories and feelings on WellButrin ,if it's ok with SLEEPLESS.
So far I think Wellbutrin is a plus overall. It brought me out of severe lethargy and boosted my mood within or 3 hours. It really does the trick and rather quickly.
On the D
O
W
N SIDE Wellbutrin tends to give me dry mouth and an apparent loss of appetite.
HOWEVER-- I have found that even though you don't feel like eating....try to. I woke up today, took my Wellbutrin, wasn't really hungry but decided to get a steak salad anyway. Well I tore it up to say the least and surprised myself how much I could eat if I just tried.
Downside#2 Lack of sex drive?? I've been feeling this but as it wears off late at night, my sex drive "pops" right back up[8D].
Downside#3 This could be a plus to some but for those of us not trying to quit smoking tobacco, the Well definietly takes the Joy of smoking away. I was a 2 pack a day smoker on oxys and sub but now on wellbut I can barely finish on cig at a time. I guess this is good, I just can't enjoy a smoke all day. It feels like it's putting stress on my chest....almost like increasing my cravings for opiates??? Weired huh?
WELL, any inputwould br great. Thanks, dogs!

My doctor RXed me another A/D, Remeron in addition to the Wellbutrin.
Wellbutrin took away my appetite and also made it hard to sleep some nights, especially if I took the Wellbutrin in the late morning hours.I try and take it by 10:am absolute latest.
I take the Remeron at night. It helps me fall alseep and also greatly increases my appetite.

Certainly does make cigarettes not have any effect on you whatsoever, doesn't it? Yeah, it seems to take away hunger "cravings", but just remember to eat because you *are* hungry and just don't know it.[^] Wellbutrin is *supposed* to be the only anti-d that does not have sexual side effects. I haven't noticed any myself and someone said that it can actually *reverse* the sexual side effects of other anti-d's. The only problem I ever had with the Wellbutrin is that it initially causes insomnia, but that seems to go away with time. My counselor is kind of hinting that I should stay on the Wellbutrin.

I take wellbutrin with prozac to offset the prozac. WB enhances your sex drive - I've heard it referred to as hyper sexual. I noticed it when I tried to come off the prozac for a few weeks. Stayed on the WB and OH BOY. Hyper is correct. [:I]
But being on bupe counters the sex drive, totally. So I'm back to square one.
I also know WB, once you're used to it (over a couple of months) apetite comes back and all. I don't smoke so can't help you there...
Hope this is helpful.

Yeah... Agreed. Before, naturally, while on opiates, my sex drive was next to nothing, but now... Whether it is from the wb or no more opiates, but I have become quite a "machine" -- maybe making up for lost time or something.

Yeah, I am on the WellBute. as well. I have about jack in the sex drive department and I always considered myself a near nympho. I am also on 4mg subox. and 2000mg Depakote. I think the later is the cause. O'well I needed something to slow me down, I think it was about ready to fall off from abuse.

sorry for being vulgar, BlackFly.
I like Wellbutrin sticky idea though.

BlackFly.... Bup KILLED MY SEX DRIVE!
It does not take much... but it was VERY apparent to me. I was on Buprenex Injections for my chronic Pain... Even .24 mg IM would kill it. At 1/2 an amp (.15 mg) it would return.
If you are at 4 mg SL it will be enough to have the loss of sex drive effect. A few of us here have had similar results.

BlackFly, I highly doubt Depakote is your problem. I couldn't find *anything* about sexual side effects from it. It's probably the bupe... I asked this somewhere else, but has anyone else gotten the sh!tz from wb? I ran out on Saturday... I had too much to do to get my script yesterday. My intestines were perfectly cool yesterday and even this morning. Then, I got my script this morning, and then I spent quite a bit of time in the good old office. Any connection? Information I have seen claims it can cause *either* sh!tz or constipation.

Depakote- The stuff almost killed me. I know for the couple weeks I was on it I had zero sex drive. Bup alone helps kill it but I know from experience and other experiences the Depakote can bring ya down if ya know what I mean.

Rodrigo....I stopped the wellbutrin and my doc put me on Zoloft. The wellbutrin doe give you the ****z and it made me way too edgy. I was nervous all the time for no reason. Can't really comment on the Zoloft yet as I started it last night.

Hiya darlin'
I was on Cipramil, its aimed to help anxiety aswell as depression.Like all A/Ds it takes a few weeks (2+) to work and you shouldn't stop taking it until you've been using it for 6 months.I didn't find any problems with it but also it didn't seem to really help tho I s'pose I did stop having panic attacks.I had to switch to Effexor cos I was still depressed.Effexors a pain in the *** in comparison tho!

Hi all...I was wondering how many of you have tried other AD's before the wellbutrin...I had tried to take Prozac and Paxil in the past and they both made me a freaking Zombie-well my body was a zombie while my insides were flying-major anxiety while on both of those...
My dr said he likes to give AD's for anxiety as opposed to benzo's due to the possible danger if taking with Bup...I hear a lot of lady's say that Wellbutrin really helped their sex drive...I NEED THAT HELP..haha ,,,as does my poor hubby....Bad enough he has an addicted spouse, ya know??? [:I]

This is a post I found on another site a few months ago....kinda scary since I've been taking Wellbutrin for 8 months.
*************************
He shouldn't worry about kidney and liver problems with these drugs if his doctor is doing what he/she is giving the scheduled blood test checkups as they are supposed to be doing. Just quitting the meds is a VERY dangerous idea. Wellbutrin needs to be tapered as suicide is evident with sudden withdrawl. I tried this before and have never felt so wretched in my life before...and that was from only 150mg. Physical anxiety, full body convullsions, dark depression, sweats, and aggression. If he is tapered under the care of his physician he should be fine. Sudden withdrawl from the others can be dangerous as well, leading to manic stages if he has bipolar and since they are anti-convulsants seizures may occur. Tapering by a physician is always wise. Has he been tried on other anti-depressants or bipolar meds?? Keep trying

1.0 SUBSTANCES INCLUDED/SYNONYMS
1.1 THERAPEUTIC/TOXIC CLASS
A. Bupropion is a structurally unique, monocyclic antidepressant. It acts by selectively inhibiting neuronal reuptake of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. It also has moderate anticholinergic activity. The chemical structure of this propiophenone is similar to amphetamine and diethylpropion, although its pharmacologic effects and adverse effects are distinctive.
1.2 SPECIFIC SUBSTANCES
o Amfebutamone
o Bupropion
o BW-323
o 2-tert-butylamino-3-chlorpropiophenone
1.6 AVAILABLE FORMS/SOURCES
A. FORMS
1. Bupropion is available (Wellbutrin(R)) by Burroughs Wellcome in 75 and 100 mg tablets. ****Bupropion was voluntarily withdrawn from marketing due to the potential for seizures in 1986, and re-introduced in July, 1989. ****
2. Bupropion is also available as a sustained-release 150 mg tablet (Zyban(R)) (Weiner et al, 1998).
B. USES
1. Bupropion is an antidepressant and is approved as an aid in smoking cessation (Sigg, 1999) and in the treatment of bulimia (Ayers & Tobias, 2001). Due to its dopamine stimulating effect, bupropion may offer an advantage in the elderly with depression and dementia (Trappler & Miyashiro, 2000). Bupropion has also been suggested as therapy for children with attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) (Ayers & Tobias, 2001).
