    Default Melatonin?

    Anybody know anything about melatonin? Why doesnt it work for me? It seems when I use it I have a harder time getting sleep. I cant seem to find info an the net. I am wondering if I am not taking as much as I should.

    hi mexi by googling melatonin i have found and read quite a bit on it and how it works to help with inducing sleep. at 1st i found a lot of info from people who sell it, and i dont know how much of that marketing stuff i believe but the non-sales info i found to be quite interesting.

    from what i can tell it works to induce sleep and supposedly doesnt help one to stay asleep...but in the morning i do have a slight fog out feeling when i do take it so for me i beleive it helps with that staying asleep...so when do you take it and how much do you take? i think it also doesnt work too well for me if i have had a busy stressful day and am wound up before bedtime. i take the 500mcg strength stuff you get from trader joes and never take more than one. some formulations i have sen are much stronger so maybe try taking more. also it didnt work for me too well in my early detox days but once i was at about 25 days it started to be effective. how far along are you?

    dont want to hijack your thread or anything but my bottle of melatonin says something about "if you are taking 5-htp dont take melatonin" anybody know why they say this?

    Ive been clean for awhile now with a few slips here and there. Ive never taken as many (opiates) as most seem to have. I have heard that you shouldnt take Melatonin with an anti-depressant, it'd be interesting to know why. Ive also heard that Melatonin works the second day that you take it but since it seems to keep me awake I am afraid to try. I take 600 mcg when I take them. Thanks for your response.

    I take 3 mg's of melatonin every night and im still figuring out if it works for me. I used to take tylenol pms but i wanted to try something new so i bought a bottle of melatonin. So far it hasnt really helped me get to sleep, but we'll see. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does nothing at all. Does anyone else have this type of experience?

    I tried melatonin my first week out of detox and it didn't do anything. Although a sledge hammer to the head wouldn't have put me to sleep either.
    Anyway, now I'm trying Valerian root. Smells amazingly awful, but it may be working, because I am now at least sleeping 2-4 hours a night. Might wanna check into that if Melatonin doesn't do it for you.

    Melatonin never worked for me early on. It also caused some really weird dreams.

    I've opted to use Valerian Root (& yeah it stinks to high heaven so hold your breath when you open the bottle). Been using Valerian for about 4 years...(3) 400mg capsules per night. No hangover. It's got a short window...so get into bed. It doesn't zonk you...(which is actually the point of not taking benzo's, Ambien, etc)...just helps to relax to get the point where I can sleep.

    Greetings All:D I like the extended release melatonin as it works by releasing the melatonin slowly, over a period of hours. However, the Valarian root or tea even works wonders.

    You might also try, sleepy time tea by celestial seasonings - its got chamomile and a bunch of other stuff in it that helps you relax.

    Or nice Albino Martini - (warm glass of milk - LOL) - read a book and put on some soft music.

    LOL....Why does it seem like only illegal substances and such really helps with the no-sleep issue? Hows your sleep going RC?
