Default Im being investigated by the DEA... help?

so.. im an addict, Ive previously seen 2 docs at once to get pain meds (but only one now). Im now under investigation and im freaking out. I have no previous felonies or misdamenors and Im so freaked that Im gonna go to jail. Does anybody know anything about this or have any experience??

Ive previously been seen by 2 doctors at once for pain killers. I see only one now, but looks like its caught up to me. I found out today that the DEA was inquiring about me at a local pharmacy. I am terrified as to what they will do to me. I have no prior felonies or anything- no record at all really, besides car accidents. Im scared, sick and dont know what to do. Does anyone know what the outcome will be for me when this all catches up or does anyone have expierience with this?>? Any help is much appreciated.

I just heard it through a tech that works there. Why would I need an attorney? Ive never done anything worng. I dont sell them or do any other drugs. I would think they have bigger fish to fry- like drug dealers. Not some girl who has a painkiller addiction and previous surgeries.

What state are you in? I know that in my state they are finally cracking down on doctor shopping. If they find out you signed a document in a doctors office stating you were not under the care of another doctor and you truely were then they are pressing charges....but mostly for those that have doen it MANY times...just yesterday one was arrested for having gone to 35 different doctors at the same time.

Let this be your wakeup call....you admitted you are an addict....get help....find a detox...rehab and get help. Looking over your shoulder is now way to live.

I don't know about Missouri, but they are probably watching doctor shopping...big problem now days. What I suggest is....getting yourself in a program...out patient or inpatient, because if they do come for you it will look better to have admitted you need help and are seeking it. Obviously you do need it...so like I said take it as a wake up call...don't wait till the choice is taken away in a jail cell.

I've been in your situation, but it was in Arizona. The DEA were on me because I was passing bogus prescriptions around the Phoenix area for about a year. I was also doctor shopping and ER surfing. Prior to my foray into the world of prescription pill addiction, I never had anything more than a parking ticket. However, my disease told me to forge so I have forgery on top of acquiring narcotics illegally. That was in 2005 and I know now, more and more states are monitoring pharmacies and doctors.
What might, MIGHT happen is this: you'll be cut off, of course, have a red flag on your name at all pharmacies locally and if they are big chains, nationally, mandated into counseling or NA and probation. If it even gets that far. See, they really don't want to put you in jail: you have no priors, committed a non violent crime, etc.
Like I said: I was arrested several times for this. My daily intake was roughly 75+ pills a day on top of a few bags of smack so, needless to say, I got sick and kicked in a jail cell with one toilet that didn't work and an audience of 30 other women. Yes, let this be a wake up call. Start a plan now. It's apparent you have an issue. Wether you think so or not, more than likely you WILL be sent to some sort of program. Why not take advantage of it now? In 2006, I moved to state that monitored prescriptions and I wasn't aware of that. Imagine my surprise when every damn pharmacy would not fill my script? My life had become unmanageable and I needed to stop, but after 15 years and losing everything to pills, pills were my solution and reason for everything. Now what? I found an awesome doctor who detoxed me in ten days on Suboxone and got my arse into nightly AA meetings to get to the bottom of all this. That was almost three years ago next month and you know what? I don't have to count my pills, worry that every cop car is for me, people trust and respect me aaannnddd best of all..I haven't been dope sick in years!
You have an option to do something about this now. Look at it as a blessing in disguise with only on caveat: this will be on your permenant record.
Private message me if you need to talk.
    We are here to help.
Don't be afraid of withdrawal. The sick feeling will pass and then the real work starts: staying sober. For me, the rooms of AA were the last thing I tried and the first thing that worked, but it will only work if you work it.

I agree with Jop and if it were me I would be seeking help to get off the merry=go-round. In todays high tech world of the pc and linked data bases... Doc shopping will be a thing of the pass. I would think that maybe the DEA may be after the doctors that are feeding your addiction more then you... you could be the pawn. I do know that soon more will fall on the responsibility of the doctor to check the data base before Rx narcs. TO help push along these bills they will need a few pawns to show the problems.. don't be that pawn.. get some help while the getting is good.

Is there any thing we can do to help you get off the dope? I would not get a lawyer until you know what and if charges will be made.. why waste the money. If charges are made... get a lawyer.

Welcome to ODR stlgirl......first of all, unless you've been transporting across state lines, stealing medical shipments, manufacturing pharmaceuticals, or something along those lines...the DEA is NOT involved. As of Oct 2010, your state has/had a PDMP listed as 'pending'. A PDMP....Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, is state based. So they may have a task force, unit in the prosecutors office, something along those lines. Depending on where and how much the funding is coming from.

So, the tech giving you a 'heads up', is the very beginning of the process. It may or may not end there. Some type of officer of the court, detective, whatever official your state (or county) uses will contact you. Usually by phone or certified mail...IF they find additional info/investigation is warranted. In most case you'll prolly find out from any doctors that wrote the scripts first. They'll take the CYA approach and drop you as a patient...again usually with a certified letter. The doc you signed the contract with almost is guaranteed to do it. Your PCP may do it as well, but by law he will have to give you 30 days notice.

If there is a 'follow up', in one way or another, you'll find yourself in what most folks call drug court. Your case will be 'staffed'..that is a committee (depending on state) will assess your case. There will be conditions placed as far as treatments ,classes, fines, ect. Most states call it a PTI.... Pre -Trial Intervention. Compliance will result in dropping the charges, and an expungement of the record.

If you're ready, you can short circuit alot of it.....by seeking a treatment program now. Even if it means coming 'clean' with your PCP. THAT alone will go a long way towards your recovery...and any possible 'pending' issues.

    Godspeed
    Jay

I am shocked. After I read what Jay posted I researched the PDMP. We live in PA. I was never really able to get meds from a dr so I never tried, but the person I started using pills with did. She was seeing 3 different dr. 3 times a month for 90-120 perk 10s a year. I wonder why PDMP didn't kick in with her, PA is so bad when it comes to that stuff, I am shocked they had it.
As far as the pharmacy is concerned, is the tech that told you they were inquiring someone you know? Did they not fill your script or what? I would do what the other people said go into a program and take it from there. I am on day 7 of sub detox, and I wish I could go somewhere, but no insurance and I have kids so I can't. When I was younger, I did H and I caught a charge and I went to rehab and because of that they dropped the charge down for me and eventually it was community service. Going to some sort of program will help you alot with that case.
This is another reason why I am quitting. I already have charges from when I was a dumb *** kid. I live in a state that uses any and all priors against you. I know with addiction you may get caught and have legal issues. I already went through that, get help while you can! I will watch for anything new on you.

I wonder what its like to kick opaites in Jail.. In my area, they can throw you in jail for either 24 hours or 48 hours without charging you .. I used to use Oxycontin every 3 hours.. So even without being charged .. Yikes..

I would rather quit under my own terms.. That way, if I got arrested, and drug tested, I might show clean on the test.. That would have to help.

Most addicts know they are going to quit eventually.. Quitting is not often something they actually decide.. rather it becomes a circumstance beyond there control. I think Addicts who decide to quit on there own are lucky..
