How long does it take to feel normal of Methadone?
How long will it take me to start to feel fine on methadone? just until i can go out and feel fine things like that,i would like to hear from anyone who has been on methadone or using methadone to see when you started to feel normal,no pain and sickness and worried things like that! thanx alot Burkie look forward to reading the posts.[}:)]
Yeah, I'm not sure what you mean either. I was on Methadone for six years a long time ago and I never felt normal on it. I don't think being addicted to a drug is a normal state for a human to be in.
I presume you mean how long after starting methadone as a replacement for illicit opiates. If that is the case you will only start to feel fine when you are on a sufficient methadone dose to cover your addiction level. That level needs fine-tuning as it is pointless to swap being stoned on illicit opiates with being stoned on methadone (if that is in fact possible!). And, equally, it is pointless being on methadone if the dose is too low. An ideal methadone dose makes you feel, well, normal. Initially you might get a slight buzz, but the great benefit of methadone is that you can replace a chaotic heroin (or whatever) life with a stable methadone life. And when that stable methadone life has returned you to some semblance of normality, you can start thinking about slowly reducing the methadone and returning to a truly normal opiate-free existence. But this takes a long time, particularly if you've been abusing opiates for a long time. And particularly if you have the "occasional" taste - best to keep clear of using at all. The methadone helps that too as it's hard to get stoned when you have methadone in your system without getting close to an overdose.
When you finally come off methadone, it can take months to feel normal again.

Well, like I said, I never felt normal. After the slight buzz faded I began drinking on top of my dose, as I know you've said you did too Cass.
See, without any real work on myself taking methadone does nothing for my need to get high - to escape from reality. Worse really, being on MM is a real killer of self esteem. Sure, they have this strange twisted way of thinking where you're supposedly getting "treatment", the "gold standard" even. Every problem it seems can be solved by an increase in your dose. Still using other drugs? You need an increase. Depressed? You must be under-dosed. Methadone maintainence, for most patients that I have met, allows, even encourages, your addict ways of thinking to continue albeit with a slight twist and a new lingo.
Normal? Is it normal to have to go pee in a cup to prove to someone I haven't used? Normal to have to report to a clinic, to be enslaved really. I know when I was on MM I never felt safe and certainly never felt in control of my life - just like I felt when I was using heroin.
ive been on 120mg for 7months now , the "clinic" has lost all but 2 of its nurses and 2 counslers, I want out!!!I feel like im in jail!I have to stand in a line like a dumb cow and piss in a cup once a week like im an animal. Someone please help me! all i need is one stright answer, please, How long will the meth block herion if I stop today? Ive been told that H will keep me from getting sick comming off the MM. So ive stock piled 100 bags . Then I plan to come off the H by useing poppys, ive done that many times with great success! Guys I need a wizard here, please tell me what you know will happen as far as the time frame is concerned. My thanks friends, and luck to you all also. DOUG C.
HUH! I hope that the road we travel is a long and prosporous(I am in the process of withdrawl - doing better). I can tell you that the you have receptors in the brain, and H is way less addictive. I can also tell you that most meth clinics do have more H around. From MUCH experience, I would be careful..............at least stay with the group.
i never felt normal on methodone! i felt like a sadated stupid spaceshot and there is alot of H around the clinic at least the one i went to. the clinic will keep raising your dose if you want, but you should stay as low as possible, your body does need to adjust to not get cravings so if you just started you just might want to wait a week to see how your feeling after that. methodone is really hard to kick-the hardest thing i eva done! so try to keep your dose low and try not to stay on it that long and it will be easier for you to get off when you are ready lisa
