The "Bupe Hotel" a place to share about BMT
I thought I would start this topic. I referred to BMT as a place to stop and rest until complete opiate detox.
Maintenance on bupe has it's problems and side effects. This would be a great place to discuss these issues and help others with your BMT experience.
This is NOT the place to debate the pros and cons of Maintenance and opinions about it not being "CLEAN".
Maintenance can be what's needed for many till they get used to a new lifestyle of not abusing opiates.
BMT is a personal choice. For some the stay here at the "Bupe Hotel" is shorter than others. (hey I want to copyright that expression!)
Topics might include: Dosing schedules, Dose amounts, side effects and how to deal with them, your feelings of how it is or is not working at different lengths of BMT, Making the decision to end BMT, staying on BMT, and how life is at the "Bupe Hotel".
Please share your experience , strength, and hope!

As a resident of the bup hotel I will be the first to respond. I like it here. It is a transitional place for me. I am staying here after a four year stint at the oxy Hell inn and H motel. SO far so good. I am at 8mg a day half of a 8mg at 6am and the other at 6pm. Aometimes I even forget that I had a problem at all. I have been here since Dec 15th, 2003 and I plan to stay for a little while. I am concerned that if I leave the cravings will return and I will wind up back where I was. SO pretty good so far! What doses are others on BMT on?

Hey, finally a place where I belong....I've just recently checked into the Bup Hotel on Feb. 1st..I wasn't due to arrive at the hotel until Feb 16th, but my stupid self ate her pills like tic-tacs then flushed the remaining 10 away.(clarification- stupid = eating them like tictacs not flushing.haha)...I thought I could detox myself - uhhmm, didn't work..[B)]....But I am here now and so happy to be so...
The Dr gave me 16mgs on Sunday and instructed me to take this amount for a full month and that we'll do a 2-3 month taper...Due to the fact that I had been on Oxy's for over 2 1/2 years for medical reasons, he feels that patients are most successful if they do a maintenance program and taper off slowly....I'm a bit freaked by that but it didn't take just a few weeks for me to develop this problem, I doubt that 2 or three weeks would just make it go away...I didn't start abusing the Oxy's until December 03....Soooooo, that's my story so far...I see I'm in Great company here at the Hotel....
Hey, does this place have a hot tub???? [ )]

Oh, I have to clarify something...When I originally started taking Oxy's a few years ago, I did eat them like candy for about 6 months..For some reason I stopped....Probably cause I had other opiates and the deadly Soma's to play with....I then took the Oxy's as prescribed, sometimes less than prescribed for a few years, then that one dreaded day I decided to see what it would feel like to sniff one, well, that was the beginning of the end...Could not control myself so on Jan 27th I flushed the rest of my Oxy's....

I give the BupHotel 4 stars. I've tried many times to kick a hydro habit but the w/d's made me cave. Started bup. last Saturday 2.4mgs. (hydro habit became 10-20 maybe even 30ish a day, 10's) and went up a bit since but today only have had .8mgs. feeling great. If I can stop w/out much displeasure w/in the next few days I'd have to say the BupHotel deserves 5 stars and a good write up in The New England Journal of Medicine.
Crossing my fingers. I went the less is more route and it's been the right call....
thanks

Well, I guess I should qualify too....
I was on Buperenex for chronic pain. Self Injected 2 or 4 times a day. This was after a long time on opiates.. Morphine then Oxy's Then I made the switch to Bupe.
Tapered some and tried to quit in November. Did not go well. Tapered more then switched back to morphine tapered and quit.
My 2 years on bupe were a love hate affair. I had side effects which made my stay here uncomfortable at times. Other times it worked well for me. After a year and a half I began to have a yucky time on it, but could not quit.
I realize that less is more with bupe, and at times it can build up and you may need to skip a dose to bring your blood level back in line.
Higher doses yield little to no benefit, yet cause higher dependence on the bupe. The more I took the more I HAD to take. When I cut back down I felt much better.. got a better effect and needed it less.
Bupe will develop a tolerance and dependence, but keeping your dose low will prevent it from getting out of hand and you will feel a lot better. Less bupe = MORE effect, less tolerance, and less dependence.
WELCOME to the HOTEL!

Bup4, is the Bupe Hotel a thread for those who are on maintenance Bupe, or those who are using it briefly for detox off other opiates, or both?
Either way, I hope my stay in this hotel is a short one!!

I kinda thought the long term (BMT) folks may want a place to share... Like on bupe for over 2 months. But I'm sure anyone is welcome!
I just wanted to keep the short DETOX questions elsewhere. As it is 2 different sets of folks with 2 different sets of needs.
The induction is the same, so are many of the MD's So there IS crossover.

So...I "call" this place for a reservation...ya know, just to see what kind of place it is?
And I'm told I "can't get a room!" And then, I'm put on hold, listening to this recording chanting "more is less!...more is less! ah-AH CHOO!! (John?)" WTF?
So...I figger maybe I can squeeze in and share a mattress w/Sunshine, Jessie, or Ashley.[ ]
I'll be down by the pool...doin' lines of 'Sweet N Low.'[ )]

Our thoughts/issues can't be near as interestsing or in depth as yours right?

Thanks Bup4 for the response, I figured that is how you had intended it, but wanted to be sure.

movnon,
If I get that you're taking offense, don't. Cgdg is just a wise *** like a few others of us here, and I can vouch without further information that the post was a joke. A pretty cute one at that.
P.S., can you smoke sweet'n'low?

I went to the doctor today. He said start the bup in the morning, 24 hours after my last oxy dose. Does this sound right to anyone. I am scared to even go through this long without my oxy's.
