    Default Comfort Meds

I hear a lot of people mention "Comfort Meds" in their posts. I don't claim to know a whole lot, but I do know that most "comfort meds" that people mention are Benzos. (Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, etc...) Does everyone realize that in the "Suboxone Book" it states that you must NOT mix Benzos with Suboxone? I would love to have a benzo for a comfort med., but as soon as I tell any doctor that I am taking Suboxone, they will NOT prescibe it for me. Furthermore, my Suboxone doctor, when he gives me a urine test each months, looks for benzos in the test. When I asked my Sub. dr. if I can get something for depression and sleep from my other dr., my Suboxone dr. said "As long as it's not a Benzo." Does it depend on the Sub. dr. or is it policy that all Sub. dr's. are not allowed to prescribe a Benzo with Suboxone? Like I said, it clearly states in the literature that one must not take any Benzo while taking Suboxone. The reason I brought all this up is because I would LOVE to have a Benzo as a comfort med. and I wonder where the heck people get them, since it's not allowed with Suboxone?

When they speak of 'comfort meds' its not Rx meds- except maybe Clonidine, a blood pressure med, but it never worked for me. Its a bunch of over- the- counter stuff, food and vitamins that can make you feel better during detox. I posted an example of this for you from a post by Bullylover-

    LOL ... benzo's and bupe....

If you are Dependent on sub the risk of a problem is almost non existent if you take a small, recommended prescribed dose.

If you took sub and were opiate naive AND took a "hit" of benxo for effect you COULD go into respiratory failure.

many many many people take sub/bupe AND benzo's w/o any problem other than getting into addiction problems with the benzos. (addiction to them)

It is SOP to prescribe benzo's and bupe for DETOX/WD

I still have my original scrips (saving for my Law suit some day) of 2 benzo's and buprenex one for anxiety, one for sleep and the bupe to help with w/d (actually all were given to get me hooked to make them $$$$)

I had NO problems at ALL taking benzo's (at prescribed doses)

This is a legal CYA and a legitimate caution for opiate naive people.

There have been a few deaths but more than prescribed doses were involved.

Been there, done that, wore out the tee shirt.

I am not doubting anyone, but how can it be Standard Operating Procedure to give Suboxone and Benzos at the same time when the Suboxone literature says, "Benzos must NOT be taken with Suboxone." My Suboxone doctor also tells me that it is very dangerous mixing Suboxone and Benzos. I have friends on Suboxone who have tried to get Benzos from ANOTHER doctor - and as soon as the other doctor knows they're taking Suboxone, the doctor will NOT prescribe the Benzo!

It's not some deadly combo, they may have some small potentiation there but it's not a toxic combination. Benzo's being a CNS depressant, and bupe having some respiratory reduction effects and mostly due to the people abusing the 2, a few people croaked... Now it's just legal BS.

If your MD gives you 20 10 mg Valium and you are taking bupe and feel crummy and eat all your V's you could have a problem. If you dye cuz you were not compliant your MD is screwed even thought it was your "fault"

Being a litigious society.. They will "blame" the MD since you are an Addict so he should have expected you to abuse your meds.

In a controlled environment they give bupe and benzo's all the time.

If you are dependent on bupe the issue is minimized. You are way past the stage of bupe depressing you..

They give Opiates and benzo's all the time too, and their "risk" is much more a risk ....

If you never took opiates and found some sub and took a few Valium with it. THAT's a problem since the bupe would hammer you and the benzo CNS action would potentate the respiratory failure probability, or "possibility" is a better word.
