Alright I don't know if this *really* deserves an entire thread but i'm going to do it anyway. My question is this: (1) How long does it typically take for the sub to melt under your tongue? (2) Is it normal for you to taste some while it is melting? and finally, (3) Is it normal for it to melt only to have a decent amount of orange tainted saliva at the end?? This topic may almost be comical to some...in fact it kind of makes me laugh when I think about it [:p] , but as a new suboxone user I really want to know if i'm consuming it as it is intended.
good question and don't feel bad...i was chewing them at first...ha! I figured why waste time? duh! They say "keep it under there, yes, tongue turns orange and i forgot the other part..ha! I drink hot coffee first and they are gone in about 30 seconds. I kinda rub it around a little with the back side of my tongue, being careful not to let it escape. And anyway....how far to the edge can we let it go???seems silly to me but hey, my best thinking got me right here talking to you about this! smile, smile smile!
I swallowed the spit...who knew??? Whatever I did worked. I have heard some say to spit the remainder out. I dont know I just know I would leave it under my tougue until it was gone and then swallow the rest. It didnt seem to hurt me or make a difference. Maybe others will give a better answer to this question. Its the little details of life that seem to trip us up:D Take care and good luck.
My doctor said I could swallow the spit, but I spit it out. The bupe is being absorbed sublingually, so what is the point of swallowing what may be some of the naloxone, IMO, which may cause stomach upset I've heard.
Yes I can usually taste it, and I've noticed that the more I taste it, the more I produce extra saliva. It's mental too, I'm sure. If I all of a sudden notice that I'm not producing much extra saliva that time, before I can think "cool!" all of a sudden it's like saliva-city in there. Anyway, if you find a good spot under there where you can't taste it too much, you won't get much saliva.
It takes me up to about 8 minutes to dissolve a whole 8mg one, and about 3-5 minutes to dissolve smaller pieces.
FWIW, if you've never had subutex, the suboxone taste is WAY better. The subutex is like this bitter minty taste. Eeew.
i have become quite the expert on this over a year and a half. at first i swallowed, than i spit, didn't ssem to make a difference, but i always now spit. it take me 25 minuts for q 3 mg chuck. i try to get everything out of it i can, but sometimes i have alot of spit and it is gone in ten. but while that spit is gushing, i push my tongue tight so it doesn't was the pill away too quickly, and then suck the spit to the top of my mouth, using my tongue as a barrier, so after it has all dissolved i push the spit that is now alot, back under my tungue, and i can still feel stuff in the spit tingle, and do that for about 3 min, and voila, spit it all out. it may not make any difference that i do it like that, but hey, it works for me, and if it ain't broke...
riteon man i'm glad you could give a rat's *** what people think about you giving a detailed description of how you let sublingual subutex pills dissolve....cause it gave me exactly the kind of information I was lookin' for!! [:p] So yeah, thanks. I've been takin' the stuff for three days now and it seems like they melt pretty fast...from insertion to completely dissolved in about 15 minutes. I could probably increase the time to between 20 and 30 mins but i'd have to be sitting with my head tilted back not doing or saying anything and being intently focused. Seems like maybe more trouble than it's worth.
