Thread: Will suboxone show up as an opiate for a drug test?

whats up fellow recovering addicts- i have been reading a lot of theese forums and there is a few who think suboxone WILL NOT show up on a test as an opiate. I was in court last week for a simple "driving after suspention" case and the judge knew me from my previous addiction and getting in trouble. he was really impressed at the fact i gained weight and looked better than before and how i told him iv'e been clean for quite some time. The judge's proposition to me was if i passed a drug test then he would dismiss the charges. i knew for a fact iv'e been clean off dope for months and i have been taking suboxone ONLY- so i was confident about taking the test for him. both me and the judge were discouraged to find out i had tested POSITIVE for opiates[xx(]. I explained to the judge about how i been taking about 6-8 mg. of suboxone a day and he gave me the benefit of the doubt to come back in 3 days for another test. i did'nt take suboxone for thoose 3 days and went back for the test and i passed the test clean. needless to say i took 12mg. as soon as i was out the door because i was starting to feel like SH*T!!! So, refrence to thoose who think suboxone won't show up on a test- IT WILL. good luck to all and keep things simple! ERIC

Why would it not show up?It's a VERY STRONG OPIATE.

Its not possible that they were testing for buprenorphine the 2nd time!

Sub has a 37 hour 1/2 life. If you took 12mg and waited 3 days you would still have between 2mg and 4mg still in your body! It probably picked up poppy seeds or some other false positive. The only way bupe will show up is if they were looking for it!

the test was for cocaine / marijuana / opiates. i pissed in the cup and the officer put the test strip IN the cup in front of me and i watched it turn colors. I hate poppy seeds and i was most deffinately clean off heroin for a while. Me and my sister went to the pharmacy while court was in recess and the pharmacist told us that it is very possibble for the suboxone to create a false positive- not only from the opiates themselves- but also the chemistry in bup. that mimics opiates. maby 2-4 mg. is not enough to show up? i dont know. but i do know that I tested POSITIVE for opiates with absolutely NOTHING in my system except "suboxone".

I'm surprised too - Everytime I go to my doc I have to take a drug test to make sure I'm not using "opiates" and I always come out negative and all I am on is subutex too.... Well maybe it was a false positive. Anyone else get a positive?

I was told by my doctor that it would never show on a drug test! Im so glad now that my new job didn't take a test on me..geeesh.

Hmm, perhaps there are a number of different tests out there?

I'm concerned about testing for Sub, cuz ostensibly one takes Sub to END active addiction, not SUSTAIN it. How will it be viewed? Addict? Recovering Addict? "Had" a drug problem?
Taking an opiate for "past" drug problem?

They have to be testing for bupe. It won't show as a opiate like hydro, oxy, heroin. I tested positive with my doctor while on sub only and took another and it was fine. The only thing I had to eat was a poppyseed bagel. Always thought that was an excuse but go figure.

do any of you know if suboxone shows up in a standard drug test. i mean REALLY know????? like there on it and they got tested and it came up clean???or,it came up dirty???or is it just an educated guess???

Depends on the test. The 'standrad' 4 panel test..no. But there are tests out to detect bubrenophine aka suboxone or subutex.

Should'nt be an issue with a doc's script.

I have been drug tested several times while on suboxone and it does not show up as an opiate on a drug test. Never has at least in urine. hope this helps.
