Default Please help-New and need to taper from Suboxone

Hey ya'll. I'm new to this forum (and thank you god i found it!). Here's the issue i'm having. I've been on suboxone for 5 years and now it's time to get off. i've gone down to 2 mg's and my dr told me once i'm out of this bottle to stop taking it. OMG!!!!! I went into full blown withdrawl. I truly had no idea getting off suboxone, especially from 2 mg's, would be like this. i have one bottle of 2's left and my dr pretty much told me good luck. I actually called the other day and her nurse told me there would be a slight adjustment period. HA!! that's like telling a woman in labor there might be some cramping. anyways-i really need help. it's not nearly as bad as getting off the old heroin/methadone habit but my god. I feel like a failure cuz i went back onto the suboxone and i don't want to use. but we all know what makes that sick go away. so i'm doing alot of meetings and prayer but this disease is so powerful. anyone else experience this? what did you do? please help.

    Hi Cristene,

Welcome to ODR!! I can totally relate to your situation. After years of heavy opiate use for low back pain I realized I was getting more and more dependent on the opiates and wanted off and stumbled upon this forum after I had been on suboxone for 3 months. I have gotten some great advice here and you will to. I went from 16 mg to 8 mg to 4 mg over three months. I then tapered down from 4 mg to 2 mg in about a month, slowly tapering a week at a time. Its taken me two whole months to get from 2 mg sub per day to where I am at today, at .2 mg sub per day. I have been able to reduce by .2 mg per week with only mild misery. I have 8 mg subutex and crush it to make equal little piles of my designated dose. For me, a .2 mg drop kicks in after about 2-3 days but levels out in about 4 more days, then I drop again. I am not out of the woods yet, but I am starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and meetings and this forum do help as I just cannot do this alone. I plan to start skipping days next week, i.e. .2 mg every other day and see how that goes, then jump with imodium and clonidine. I have been posting in my own thread and getting great advice from those who have been there.

I will leave it to others who are clean today to give you actual advice.

You can do this, many people here have, and they continue to give me great hope.

I wish you the best! My hopes and prayers are with you.

Yes jumping off is post jump from the sub. The clonidine,Imodium, and phenegran can be used as comfort meds..to minimize the acute stage.

How much sub do you have left? Maybe we can help with a reasonable taper plan.

    Hi Cristene,

Jay found you, you're in good hands now!!

Subutex is suboxone without naloxone. My understanding is that naloxone is put in suboxone so that if you shoot it up you will go into withdrawal immediately. I seemed to have gotten bad headaches from it so I got my doctor to switch me from suboxone to subutex. Subutex also comes generic so its cheaper than suboxone.

I know what you mean about "only 2 mg" of sub. Now I am "only .2 mg of sub" and it's still tough. But many people have done it so you and I can to!

    All the best for you!

The good/bad news...you're at 2mg. For a large percentage of folks the sub is most effective at that point.

You were at 2mg. Not sure of your dosing schedule...but go to 1.5mg with your previous dose schedule. A few days at that, then we can help you with a reasonable plan.

Do you have, or is the doc willing to script some clonidine and phenegran?

i'm meeting w/ my dr on tues so i will for sure ask then let you know. but she's hard pressed to give anything but pysch meds. ok. i'll do the 1.5 for like 3 4 days? i only take one 2 mg in the am now so i'll just do the 1.5 in the am. i can't function till after that. even praying is hard before taking my suboxone. thanks so much. also-i'll let you know exactly what i have left. i only have computer access at work for right now and they're at home.

I feel like a failure cuz i went back onto the suboxone and i don't want to use. but we all know what makes that sick go away. so i'm doing alot of meetings and prayer but this disease is so powerful. anyone else experience this? what did you do? please help.

Cristene you are an addict and having a disease is not the same as failure. Change up your words dear one and say instead I AM DOING THIS! It is never about yesterday or about the fear of tomorrows with recovery. It is always about what you do in that day to seek recovery. I see you are doing meetings and prayers and also now posted on here, all steps in the road to recovery, so you are already on the right path. Now with Jay you can tweak your taper to fit you, get the most out of the least. Until you are ready to jump keep all you ARE doing in place, including posting.
Much love and prayers to you on this hard but so DOABLE journey back to life!

Yeah i agree with Binky. By cutting by 0.2mg from a 2mg tab every week or so is ur best bet..You can try to go to 1.5mg from 2mg but if it gets too uncomfortable then u can always drop by 0.2mg or even go to 1.8mg from 2mg now. And yeah it also took me months to reduce from the lower doses..Like i said in my previous post to u in the other thread that it took me 3 months just to go from 2mg to 0. I cut by tiny incraments (0.2mgs) every week or week and half..You have to stabilize mentally aswell as pshycally..You will eventually stabilize, just give it time..If you can do any pshycal activity (Excercise) then that will only Benifit you!. It releases the Endorphins and makes tapering espeacially at the lower doses, just that bit easier. Anything like even a walk around the block, whatever u can do, keep ur mind occupied and keep busy.

    Good-Luck & i wish u a Speedy Recovery Folks!.

    Peace!!!!.....
