    Default hi-im jenny..suboxone-one yr. today..

    Hi-
Ive been reading this forum for a long time now-and im shy..its taken a while..to come here-but i know this is the best forum for opiates/detox/suboxone out there-thank you for being here-ive got so much great info on this site..

I have been on suboxone for a yr..and im currently holding at 4 mgs.
    I was addicted to H-since 1996-w/ approx.a yr. clean in 2000-2001.
    I did get chunks of 1-3 months-off dope-but was relapsing..alot.
H really did me in-i lost my creativity/my soul to that ****..and had researched bupe(i had it in detox-in 2000-and when it became available-(after my final relapse-which really crushed my life-i chose to do sub..
I actually have some productive clean time..instead of obsessing about using-ive been trying to prepare myself-mentally-thru therapy-and physically-(ive gained weight from the sub..i think)my sweet tooth is outta hand..exercise etc..for coming off the sub..which will be happening as im starting the tapering process now.
This is a "miracle drug"-in the way that the cravings are so minimized that i sometimes forget i had an addiction to heroin.
But i don't really forget-since i pray daily for recovery.
Im grateful for this treatment-yet im aware of my upcoming w/d from this med.
Im gonna need you folks in the upcoming months-and im always here to listen-and willing to help anyone considering using sub-or having a hard time dealing w/ there addiction..
I was hoping that there may some words of wisdom-for me-coming down in dose-what to expect-how to taper-
my doc suggests a 1/2 mg taper each month.
    sounds reasonable?
Peace to all suffering w/ the addiction-there are options-and i do believe the sub has been positive.
    Goddess Bless

    Jenny,
Welcome to the forum! There are lots of folks here who have tapered off sub...I am sure you will get some good support here.

I have never been on it for more than a few weeks...currently I am on a minimal dose and plan to jump off over the next week - then face the world with no chemical assistance!!! But I know that it is different when you have been on it for a while. I'm so glad that it has enabled you to get your life back....I agree...opiate addiction crushes your soul and drains every ounce of creativity and passion from your life.

Check out some of Bup4pains posts, and there are several others as well - names escaping me right now - who have tapered off longer-term sub use. Don't be shy! We welcome your input and support here. Glad you found us.

    Ashley

It has very good effects, but is no miracle drug!

Buprenorphine, because of its mixed antagonism/agonism at mu receptors causes opiate like effect! But cause of it's antagonism only properties at k receptors, i believe it lacks the dream like effect (not always pleasent) of H and other opiates... Specially etorphine, one the strongest agonist in k receptors! Etorphine because of it's extreme high potency and psychedelic like effect too, is only used in to sedate larger animals like elephants and such!
I believe that that antagonist at k receptors represents in an "normal" sensation of beeing! Most Ppl under buprenorphine has sensations like this! Like kinda of beeing straight!

But now for the "miracle drug"....
It's not that! Depends on how u see it!
Look this way.... Heroin, Opium, Morphine (Lab like not unpure street H) has good health effects on the imune system (When opium was banned in china epidemic deceases spread like hell, opium reforces the imune system)! If u don't count constipation and addiction, natural opiates and heroin (not street heroin) has almoust only good effects for ur health!
It has no liver/organ decease, if used pure and by safe IM/IV!

Now for buprenorphine.... it's not like that! it may causes liver problems, and it's not so well studied!

I'm not saying that u should use H instead, not like that! But only to point the real facts!
The laws/man's greed created the opium/heroin problems excluding the adiction/constipation problems, and adiction to Opium/H was a low cost adiction once, and in a kinda way a safer one! In 1914 laws changed that in USA, creating an expression that did not existed before: black market drugs! Before that u could receive by mail order or by at any place opiates with low cost and without the alienness of the opiates users these days!

But stay on bupe! just keep checking ur ALT/... liver enzimes....

    Hi Jenny,
I'm glad your feeling safe enough to open up and post. I think that it's wonderful that you have been able to maintain a reasonably good quality of being clean while on suboxone. Congrats on the year! From the many things I have been reading as well as my sub drs. thoughts on the subject the longer taper your doc. suggests sounds reasonable. In addition to the physical need for this is, it also gives you more time to continue to prepare or continue fostering whatever supports you have in place to help you stay clean. You can do it! I agree with you that this is a wonderful drug for helping to minimize the cravings and keep w/d symptoms from our DOC's at bay. It is a synthetic opioid and it will have it's own set of w/d issues. They tend to be similar to most opioids but generally less severe but more drawn out due to the longer half life of bup. the longer taper will help you with this. Keep close contact with your dr. of the way you feel through out. some of the same drugs that they probably prescribed at the begining of your sub treatment, i.e., for nausea, anxiety etc will also help during this time if it gets severe. Most of the people I have spoken with about coming off the sub have said it is a bit uncofortable but not nearly as bad as other drugs. (some headaches, cold feet, nausea etc) There are many folks here who have gone off after long maintainenece periods and certainly they will be able to pipe up here. You'll get all sorts of variations on how bad the w/d's are from sub. IMO I think the important thing is that if you need to taper longer than the doc. is suggesting or if you need to be maintained on it longer, if it means helping you to keep from relapsing again than do it. Provided of course you feel comfortable with this and it is not causing any other undo health issues that you feel are too harmful (like liver enzyme probs etc. Your doc can test for this).

For me the sub has been helpful too. I have only been on it since last thursday, but I know for me, there was no way I could have stopped without it's help. (hydro was my drug of choice). I'm glad you opened up to share. When you do, not only does it help you, but it helps me too! thank you. Good luck and keep us posted.
    Best,
    Ben

    I appreciate your responses-so much-thanks..
xochipilli-i understand that its not a true miracle drug-that im gonna walk away from this free-but what i did say is-its amazing in its reducing cravings,etc..
What you said about pure H-(being GOOD for the immune system)is not entirely true-a clean shot of H does not harm-but lets be honest-whens the last time you came into contact w/ pure..anything-other than pure pharmaceuticals-
I really didn't wanna get into a debate about dope..i too spent years reading/researching-H-the laws-pharmacology ..i have a friend who is a dr.-researching AIDS/-and he told me-that a clean shot of dope is safer than any other hard drugs..thanx-Benito/ashley-for your welcome..
ya know-the new kid gotta get a little hassled..
    peace.

    Hi, Jenny--
Welcome to the forum. I'm new here, too, and only recently (yesterday) got up the courage to post my story--after 3 attempts! Writing is easier for me than talking for some reason, so this forum agrees with me. And unlike real-life groups, this one is truly anonymous if you need that. You can pour out your deepest/darkest and I bet they'll be a line of respondents saying "I did that, too."
I also did H--snorted it for 2 years and with sub, I am finally free from its oppressive effects. Unlike you, though, it unleashed my creativity...I could take hours to snort a bag, just enough to perk me up instead of sending me into a nod. But of course I'd still wake up sick and would have to use that bit I'd saved to get me going the next day. Although I don't have years and years of use as my history, I am as much a junkie as the next guy. If I stopped using the suboxone tomorrow, I'd probably relapse, which is why I'm looking for a long term maintenance to gain some distance from its power over me and to break the daily compulsion to use. I'd even been thinking of using it forever, but maybe one day I'll feel strong enough to fight the urges on my own. But thinking like that is not the NA way, is it? One day at a time. I'll deal with today's problems today.
I'm curious, however, about your year-long sub use. How have you felt on it for such a long period. Your energy? Any depression? Or did you just feel normal? Are you on an anti-depressant, too? For me, sub has also been a miracle drug, as its allowed me to live the day without focusing on cravings and using. I feel stable, and I haven't had that feeling for a long, long time.

But my appetite has changed and I seem to only want carbohydrates--cereals, fruits, and the worst of all, PANCAKES, with extra butter and lots of syrup. I've eaten more pancakes the past few weeks than I have in the last 10 years. My jeans felt a little tight yesterday; I better get to the gym. You mentioned an increased sweet tooth, too. What's up with that?

Take it slowly, Jenny--don't jump off too fast; let your body be your guide. This isn't a contest and everyone is different. It's uup to you to take care of yourself during this process--you take over the steering wheel and give yourself as much or as little gas as you need for the remainder of the ride. Good luck, hon.

I think in china a lot of people got dope sick and that is what help increase epidemics. That is very hard on the body to go threw withdrawl and makes infection much more likly. Opiates are no wonder drug if it was methadone would be sold at every 7/11

Good luck on gettin clean take it slow and post
