    Default Lowering Suboxone dose

I have a question. If i break an 8mg suboxone pill in half, and utilize it for 4mg, will this do anything to the drug, such as disenabling the effects? I have around 5 8mg pills left. I cant get an appointment till like the 20th, dont ask, but i figured anyway, i can lower my daily dose from 8mg to 4mg, then i will have approx 10 4mg pills. I beleive 4mg is still srong enough for its effects.

Also, a few months ago, my doctor wrote me a script of 100. THe pharmacist only filled 90, telling me that its the most they can fill. Now i have a bottle with 10 pills remaining. I went to the pharmacy and asked them if i could fill it, they said, it would be useless to fill it, becasue they will have to charge me the full script amount. But i cannot wait 15 more days to my appointment and the remaining 10 would help me alot. So can i get the remaining 10 refilled at the pharmacy i have been going to, even if i have to pay.
Then, when i get my new script on the 20th, take the script to another pharmacy, if my old pharmacy wont fill it, because of the monthly refill law or whatever.

    Hi-
Done it a number of times. Breaking an 8mg Sub in half will not reduce the effects of the medication (beyond cutting the dose in half obviously) Don't forget the crumbs though!

Yes,don't worry about breaking them up.I'm keeping an 8mg to nibble on in emergencies!:)
I don't know about the chemist but it sounds like you can get the 10 if you're willing to pay the full amount again. As for your next script-can you ask your Doc to write your scripts in multiples of 90 in future?
Good luck in your taper. You could even go from 8 to 6 to 4 though its a pain breaking the pills up exactly.Just don't risk feeling vulnerable-I tapered too fast at first n then used-if I'd just recognised how I wa feeling I could've upped my dose again for a bit-Sub is always better than H (or drug of choice!)

Get a "pill cutter" at the pharmacy, they cost $2-$4, and work pretty good getting the 8's cut into four peices. Little bit of crumbs, but hardly any. Any smaller than that (2mg peices), would be difficult, but maybe not impossible.
That sounds ridiculous that you would have to pay full price for the remaining 10 in the script. Maybe try taling to the manager, or atleast a different pharmacist.

That is crazy, what the pharmacist is saying about paying for the whole amount. Unless, it is on insurance??? and you will still have to pay the whole deductible. Do try to talk to a different pharmacist there. If you know of another pharmacy in town which dispenses sub, go there, ask them to call for a copy at the other pharmacy. I do not understand what is going on with this. Wren

Wow -will they do 'pill cutter's in the U.K.? I suppose they must! I didn't know there was such a thing. It would help so much when I'm trying to break an 8mg into 4 2mg pieces! Thanks for that tip Fluffy,

ya, well my appointment is april 21. thats a good 11 days. I have 4 8mg suboxones left, so if i cut em in half, thats 8 4mg pills. If i cut those in half, thats 16 2mg pills, but i dont think 2mg will do the trick, coming off of 8-16 mg daily. I can fill the script for 10, pay the lousy 35.00, then when i go to my doctor, get another script for 60 or 90 and go to a different pharmacy. I dont think the same pharmacy will fill 10 on say 4-10-04 then fill a full script on the 21st. But another pharmacy wont know, unless the insurance keeps track somehow. But if i dont refill, i can just take 4mg, every day, and skip a few if im feeling ok. I also have klonopin so that helps. I will never run out of suboxone again. Dont ask how or why most of my script is gone, due to drug seeking theives that were at my apt and dipped in my medication. But im not telling that story to no pharmacist. Im sure they heard it all.

But i could fill the script of 10 say tommorrow, then when i get the new script from my doctor on the 21s, hell probably write me 60 8mg, so i can take it to another phamacy. Its a c-3 drug, so i dont see much of a problem. Unless im wrong?

$35??? That's less than I pay for 10 Suboxone. They're just over $5 a piece here, and I've gotten over 100 of them in the past two weeks (apx a months supply). Just pay the $35 and do what you have to for the next one. I don't know how it works in the UK, but here (USA), there would seldom be a proplem, especially at the Rx that shorted you on the script in the first place.
The pill cutters are just little plastic (mine's blue) thingy's that open, has a place to put the pill and a razor type thing on the top, so when you close it, it comes down on the pill and cuts it in half. It's a real simple, cheap design, but it works.

    Hi Neuromind,

Depending on your insurance company, you may have an issue getting the 30 Sub filled so soon after getting the 10.
Will the insurance company be aware that you're only getting a quantity of 10 pills...even though you're paying the deductible for a full 30?
It also depends on how the RX is written. How many mgs. a day are you supposed to be taking? I mean, how long should 10 last?

If I were to go to a different pharmacy to fill a C-3 medication early, my insurance would refuse payment until it was supposed to be filled. I don't think all insurance companies work the same way, though.

    Good luck!

I was able to skip a day here and there and felt ok. It scary to be so low but the bup does stay in your system so long that it might be enough to get you through. Good Luck!

ya, thats what im concerned about. If i get the 10 refilled say tommorrow,, or monday that is, when i get my new script from my doctor on the 21's, (60-8mg pills) monthly, and i go to another pharmacy, i may be flagged for refilling such untill next month. Then im back to sqare one with 10 suboxones for a month.
As i speak, i have 6-4mg suboxnes to last me 10 days. Yes i could break em to 2mg, or skip a day, but im worried about my addiction. If i start feeling withdrawls, i may pick up the phone and say @@@@ it, and get myself a few oxys or something. I do have klonopin so i may just skip each day, on the off days take 2mg of klonopin every 8 hrs, then take 4mg the next with normal dose 1mg klonopin every 8 hrs.

if i skip a day, having 6 (4mg) pills, that is 12 days, and will be enough until the new script. If i break the 4mg pills, ill have 12 (2mg) pills, but i dont think 2mg will do much for me. 4mg did help i felt better, not much withdrawl from 8mg to 4mg, but anymore i think it will cause some withdrawl.

oh well thanx for the advise.
