I was Tina. I am now closer to being Beth. Thanking God above every minute for my redemption and His grace to see me through this!

What a terrific program for those of us in recovery. Showing us our old ways, right in our faces. Hubby watched 1/2 hour of it. Said I was on that cliff, but he caught me in time before I jumped. I was so close to losing it all. The damned power of those blessed pills!

God bless you all,
Beth

You know it is funny because the other night I was out to dinner at Macaroni Grill and I had one of my "deep" thinking detox moments and I was looking around and thinking, I bet at LEAST 10 other people in here have a problem with pain meds. A dirty little secret that no one knows about. See taking pain meds is pretty easy to hide for a pretty long time. People will notice things about you that are different, but they can't quite put their finger on it, can they?? It's not like alcohol and weed and some of the others, it is much easier to hide. Of course, once I told people, they said " Oh that is what the hell was wrong with you!!!" Or if I didn't tell them, they would still say, you seem different somehow??
Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that this is SO much more common that I ever ever realized. I swear, about a quarter of the people I know have had an "incident" with this medicine. And I don't hang around the slums!! I can't watch those shows yet, I get MEGA goosebumps just hearing the commercials.
Love Sarah

Parents and friends intervene to save Alissa, a compulsive gambler who has lost more than $30,000 on 25-cent slots. Meanwhile her boyfriend juggles three jobs just to make ends meet for them. Then we meet Brian, whose crystal meth habit feeds his sex addiction and sends him trolling the streets for new partners every day.

The chick (gambling) wouldn't go to rehab, but the guy doing the crank did. But he got booted out for some unknown reason, and had (I believe) 40 days when the show concluded. I didn't enjoy watching the "using" footage atall. Bad memories.
I remember back in '94, going into rehab, and dashing a week later cuz I didn't "need it". Boy, do I wish I'd stayed....

JB- Appreciate the reminder, I think it's a decent portrayal...

I feel awful for this mom. She's addicted. Not just to Vicodin, but to gambling as well! Incredible. I can't imagine having a 2nd thing to deal with. Although I do like my fountain sodas from Chic-Fil-A, that doesn't compare.....wait...does it??
I'm up to 3 a day...but wait....I can cut back..I think!

Sorry, I'm in rare form tonite. Thank you Sub.

That's the worst part, not getting to see a current update on the folks. She was in the throes of it!!!!!!!

Default INTERVENTION

The show is on tonite at 9pm and 10pm EST...I think the first episode is a repeat one, then the second show is a new one.

Here's what they're serving up tonight.
I generally watch it, and recommend it for addicts/alcoholics, and their loved ones.
Mic

Kelly and Mark
Airs on Sunday, October 30 at 9:00pm ET

Family and friends decide that an intervention is their only hope of saving two men: Kelly, a man with a 160 IQ who lives on the streets and survives on beer and other people's spare change, and Mark, who's so addicted to painkillers that he's had a morphine pump surgically implanted in his abdomen.

TV14 L

Corrine (#14).
Airs on Sunday, October 30 at 10:00pm ET

Corinne is a pretty 18 year-old blonde girl who was an honor roll student, star athlete and played the clarinet and saxophone. She started using drugs at 14 after being sexually abused by a neighborhood boy who babysat her. Still striving to move forward while battling her addictions, she completed her GED and began college, finishing two semesters before dropping out. Now, Corinne has become addicted to a deadly combination of heroin and crystal meth. Corinne likes the "speedball effect" -- the dangerous result of overlapping meth and heroin usage. Corinne is also a diabetic who requires insulin, but she often skips her doses because she is so high. After repeated trips to the emergency room, her family is expecting, any minute, to hear that they've lost her for good.

I love watching this show, but sometimes, and this happened with the Methadonia show on HBO, I get to feeling nostalgic about my DOC. Is this messed up? Don't get me wrong, I know the devastation heroin broght upon me...but when I watch someone else booting up....it gets me thinking......

I never did H, but the sight of pill bottles, or the interesting shape of brand Vike ES, gets me going. My decision to watch/not watch, has alot to do with how I'm doing between the ears.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone in active addiction watched, got inspired, and began the journey to health and recovery??

The only part that I might have considered "nostalgic" was seeing the bottles of Methadone...so I just chose not to see them. It was difficult, admittedly, but I felt I HAD to watch so the other women in the room just told me when it was "safe" to turn back to the screen. Arlene

Yea, that super bright kid with the booze problem reminds me of a LOT of people I grew up with who are alcoholics. I hope his stint in rehab, albeit unsuccessful, has provided him with some skills to hopefully get by and maybe mitigate alcohol use in the future.

Hard to watch at times, but good stuff. Lisa
A thought for those who would like to watch it, but fear jonesin, would be to watch it with another addict. In fact, that's probably a good idea anyway, cuz I can go from well-grounded to spinning, in a nanosecond.
